Netanyahu Tours Tunnels Beneath Al-Aqsa Compound Ahead of Yom Kippur
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, toured excavation tunnels beneath occupied East Jerusalem’s Old City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound ahead of Yom Kippur.
Footage released by Netanyahu showed the couple walking through the underground tunnels before joining Selichot prayers at the Western Wall.
The visit has drawn condemnation from Hamas, which described the excavations and Netanyahu’s presence beneath the holy site as an assault on Al-Aqsa Mosque’s identity and status.
The move comes amid heightened tensions surrounding Jerusalem’s holy sites, as Israeli settlers also entered the Al-Aqsa compound under police protection.
