ZAMBIA BIDS FAREWELL TO FIRST INDIGENOUS AIRFORCE COMMANDER LT. GEN. PETER ZUZE
Zambia’s first indigenous Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Peter Zuze, is being laid to rest in Lusaka today following his death on September 14, 2026, at the age of 83 after an illness.
Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa joined family members, government officials, defence and security personnel, and members of the public at a requiem mass held in honour of the late military leader at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Lusaka.
The requiem service drew mourners from across the country who gathered to pay their last respects to a man remembered for his distinguished service to Zambia and his contribution to the development of the Zambia Air Force.
Lieutenant General Zuze made history as the country’s first indigenous Air Force Commander and played a key role in strengthening Zambia’s defence capabilities during his military career.
Tributes from government officials, military personnel and members of the public have described him as a dedicated patriot whose leadership and commitment to national service left a lasting legacy in the country’s defence establishment.
Following the requiem mass, the late Lieutenant General Zuze is expected to be laid to rest in Lusaka with full military honours.
He is survived by his family and leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership and dedication to the nation.
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded the late Lieutenant General Peter Dingiswayo Zuze (Rtd.) an Official Funeral, with the former Zambia Air Force Commander.
