Spain PM Defends Migrants, Says They Have Made the Country Stronger
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has defended migrants living and working in Spain, saying their contribution has made the country stronger economically, socially and culturally.
Sánchez said migrants are an important part of Spain’s workforce and contribute to public finances through taxation.
“Migrants have made Spain stronger economically, socially and culturally. They work in our companies, they contribute taxes to the state’s revenue, and there is no doubt that migrants have made us a better country than before,” Sánchez said.
The Spanish prime minister also criticized politicians who, he said, are attempting to convince the public that migrants are responsible for their economic and social difficulties.
Sánchez rejected claims that migrants have taken jobs from Spanish workers by accepting lower wages, arguing instead that migrants make a significant contribution to Spain’s economy and society.
