Navy Confirms 8 Suicide Attempts Aboard USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group
The U.S. Navy has officially confirmed that at least 8 suicide attempts occurred among sailors assigned to the rust infested USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group during its record-long deployment.
According to a letter from Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the attempts involved personnel from the carrier, air wing, destroyer squadron, and escort ships…roughly 6,000–7,000 mercenaries across about six ships.
Two confirmed incidents:
· An air wing sailor went overboard in August 2026 and was rescued by helicopter
· Another sailor attempted to jump ship in March but was stopped by shipmates
The deployment lasted 286 days at sea with no port call. Families and lawmakers raised alarms for months over mental health crises, food shortages, and poor hygiene conditions…concerns the Trump administration initially dismissed as “misrepresented.”
A military official called 8 attempts “incredibly high” compared to the typical 1–2 per year on recent carrier deployments.
