KENYAN WIDOW RECOUNTS HORROR OF BEING THROWN INTO HUSBAND’S GRAVE DURING BURIAL
A Kenyan woman has recounted the terrifying moment she and her son were allegedly thrown into her late husband’s grave during his burial as mourners accused her of being responsible for his death.
Edith Wekulu, a school caterer and mother of two, told TUKO that her husband Samson, a police officer, died on December 28, 2022.
According to Edith, trouble erupted during the burial when she hesitated to throw soil onto her husband’s coffin. She says some mourners began accusing her of causing Samson’s death before the situation turned violent.
Edith alleges that she was pushed into the open grave, landing on her husband’s coffin, while people continued pouring soil inside. Her son was also allegedly thrown into the grave.
She said her brother eventually jumped into the grave and managed to rescue them
The ordeal allegedly continued after she was pulled out, with Edith saying she was dragged, beaten and called a murderer. Police were eventually called to restore order, according to her account.
Edith further claims that following her husband’s death, his family compelled her father to return the dowry, made her sign a document severing her ties with Samson and took his property.
Her extraordinary account has drawn attention to the trauma some widows face following the deaths of their husbands.
