Uganda’s Army Chief Declares Bobi Wine Permanally Barred from Future Elections
In a strongly worded statement posted on X late Saturday night, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has declared that opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine (whom he refers to as “Kabobi”), will never be allowed to contest another election in Uganda.
Quoting the general’s post:
> “Kabobi will never be allowed to stand in another election in Uganda again. He proved he is a foreign puppet when he run abroad 10 days after the last elections. We will never let that clown stand for anything in Uganda again. Never!”
The statement comes months after the contested January 2026 presidential election, in which official results gave President Yoweri Museveni a decisive victory. Bobi Wine, who ran as the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, rejected the outcome, alleging widespread irregularities. He left the country shortly afterward and has remained outside Uganda.
Gen. Muhoozi, who is also the son of President Museveni and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, framed the opposition leader’s departure as evidence of foreign influence and labeled him a “clown” and “foreign puppet.”
The remarks have sparked immediate reactions online, with critics arguing that eligibility for elections is determined by the Electoral Commission and the Constitution, not the military. Supporters of the general have welcomed the hardline stance.
This is the latest escalation in the long-running political rivalry between the Museveni family and Bobi Wine. More updates to follow as reactions continue to pour in.
