Days after Chivayo’s death, the prophet at the centre of a viral rituals audio is in trouble
Christopher Guzha, also known as Madzibaba DVD, has been arrested in Goromonzi over an alleged armed robbery involving an EcoCash agent, days after an audio linked to the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo went viral.
The self-styled prophet, identified as Christopher Guzha, was arrested on Sunday, 4 October 2026. Law enforcement sources said an EcoCash agent had lost US$12,000 (about R198,000).
Guzha was expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera on Monday, 5 October. His wife, Bridget, told ZimLive that police officers seized his phone immediately after the arrest.
The circumstances surrounding the arrest have also drawn attention because of the timing of the case and the recent circulation of the Chivayo audio.
Family disputes armed robbery allegation
Guzha’s family has disputed the circumstances surrounding the charge. His son-in-law, who declined to be identified, claimed the armed robbery allegation was connected to the leaked recording rather than the alleged loss of money.
“It’s has everything to do with the leaking of the Wicknell audio,” he said, as quoted by ZimLive.
That claim has not been independently established, and the available information does not confirm that the arrest was linked to the audio.
The recording itself has attracted widespread discussion since Chivayo died in a helicopter crash in Marondera on Wednesday, 30 September
What was said in Wicknell Chivayo audio?
In the recording, Chivayo was heard thanking an unnamed Madzibaba for giving him lucky charms which he said had helped him gain favour with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
He also discussed performing what he described as one final ritual at Lake Kariba. The ritual allegedly involved lowering a clay pot containing ritual objects into the lake’s depths.
Chivayo was also heard promising the Johane Masowe eChishanu cleric a vehicle once his money started coming in.
ZimLive reported that the authenticity of the recording had been established. However, the publication of the audio and the circumstances surrounding its leak remain part of the wider controversy.
