DR CONGO REPORTEDLY CONSIDERS MOVING EMBASSY TO JERUSALEM AS ISRAEL PLANS RESIDENT EMBASSY IN KINSHASA

The Democratic Republic of Congo is reportedly preparing to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, while Israel is expected to establish a permanent, resident embassy in Kinshasa.

If completed, the move would make DR Congo one of the relatively few countries to maintain an embassy in Jerusalem, a decision that would represent a significant diplomatic gain for Israel.

The development follows recent talks between Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as the two countries seek to strengthen bilateral relations.

Supporters of the reported plans say closer ties could expand cooperation in areas such as security, technology, investment and economic development.

Critics, however, argue that Kinshasa should prioritize its internal security and humanitarian challenges and question the diplomatic implications of moving its embassy to Jerusalem.

The reported development comes despite continued international criticism of Israel over its war in Gaza and could further strengthen Israel’s diplomatic ties across Africa.

If the plans go ahead, the move could mark a significant shift in DR Congo’s relations with Israel and become an important development in Israel-Africa diplomacy.
