PEOPLE ARE ANNOYED WITH MWEWA, HE WILL FAIL TO CLEAR THE CITY, SAYS TOONSE MEMBER.

Toonse Pamodzi Alliance supporter and opposition member Crawford Mukando says Zambians are annoyed with Lusaka Mayor Mwewa Chitambala over his ongoing city cleaning exercise.

Mukando says Mr. Chitambala must tone down and restrategise his aggressive approach to the implementation of the “Operation Clear Path” campaign.

He says the Mayor’s aggressive approach could irritate technocrats, who may sabotage his efforts to succeed.

“The Mayor needs to restrategise and realise that some of the people affected by his Operation Clear Path are relatives of the same police officers being used to execute their duties.

“Removing street vendors, bus stops, call boys, and others is okay, but it should have been done in phases. You don’t just wake up and decide to relocate people at gunpoint to markets or neighbourhoods without considering their plight and the families affected by such haphazard decisions,” he said.

Mukando advised Lusaka Mayor Mwewa Chitambala to avoid being sensational and overexcited when executing his duties.

“Because very soon, and I mean very soon, the same council police and Zambia Police officers being used to uproot these people, some of whom have affected relatives, will be the ones to undermine him and sabotage his efforts, which might fuel riots,” he warned.

He said people were very annoyed and warned that Chitambala risked becoming unpopular within a short period if he continued with the current approach.
