IRGC Releases Footage of Supertanker Exploding After Reported Mine Strike in Hormuz
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released dramatic footage purportedly showing a massive oil supertanker erupting in an explosion and catching fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC claims the vessel struck a naval mine while attempting to leave the strategic waterway through an unauthorized route. Iranian officials also alleged that the tanker had switched off its navigation and positioning systems before the incident.
The force warned that vessels ignoring its maritime restrictions could face severe consequences, escalating concerns over commercial shipping through one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
The tanker’s identity and the exact circumstances of the explosion have not been independently confirmed.
