Zelensky condemns lack of warning as Russian missiles strike Kyiv amid US intelligence concerns
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine received no advance warning from its Western partners before Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv on October 12, with five missiles striking civilian infrastructure.
Zelensky called the lack of warning unfair, stressing that early intelligence about Russian missile launches is critical to saving lives.
The incident raised concerns amid reports that Washington had threatened to suspend intelligence sharing if Ukraine continued striking Russian energy facilities.
However, US President Donald Trump said on October 13 that Washington was still sharing intelligence with Ukraine. Ukrainian officials also said cooperation remained in place, and there is no confirmed evidence that the United States deliberately withheld the warning.
