Two Singapore-flagged cargo ships hit in Strait of Hormuz, one sinks

Two Singapore-flagged container ships were struck by unidentified projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on October 13 and 14, according to Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority.

The GFS Pride caught fire after sustaining damage and later sank. All 21 crew members were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

A second vessel, the GFS Giselle, suffered hull damage in a separate incident but reached a safe anchorage under its own power. All 22 crew members were reported safe.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said a cargo ship sank after striking a naval mine while following what it described as an unauthorized route. It remains unclear whether that account refers to the GFS Pride.

The identity of those responsible for the attacks has not been independently confirmed.
