THIS IS HUGE: The NAACP Just Sued Trump’s Justice Department to Stop Its Plan to Send 1,000 Poll Monitors Into the Midterms

The NAACP isn’t waiting to see what happens on Election Day.

On Friday, the civil rights group sued the Department of Justice to block the Trump administration from deploying 1,000 federal poll monitors to voting sites across the country, according to Democracy Docket.

Read that again. 1,000.

The Justice Department has sent small teams of trained, neutral observers to past elections to make sure voters’ rights were protected. The NAACP says this is something completely different.

According to the lawsuit, Attorney General Todd Blanche and Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon have openly said the monitors’ mission is to root out voter fraud, chasing Trump’s unsupported claims. The NAACP argues the real goal is to intimidate eligible voters and harass election workers, and that no federal law lets the administration turn polling places into “interrogation rooms.”

Even Wyoming’s Republican governor, Mark Gordon, criticized the federal monitors for aggressive and irregular behavior during his state’s primary.

Now the NAACP is asking a federal judge to block the plan under the Voting Rights Act and to force the DOJ to reveal exactly which communities it plans to target.- really American
