Ukrainian Drone Strikes Key Cable-Stayed Bridge in St. Petersburg

A cable-stayed bridge spanning the Korabelny Fairway in St. Petersburg was reportedly struck during a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s second-largest city on October 18.

The bridge forms part of the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD), a major toll motorway connecting the northern and southern parts of the city. The crossing is an important link in St. Petersburg’s road network.

Initial reports indicated that the bridge sustained damage, but the full extent of the impact remains under assessment. There has been no confirmed report that the structure collapsed or was rendered completely impassable.

The incident was reported amid a wider overnight drone assault that targeted infrastructure across St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region, including an oil terminal and other critical facilities.
