Court Adjourns MUNDUBILE’s Bail Hearing to October 21

By Memory Bbuku

The Lusaka High Court has adjourned to October 21, 2026, the hearing of an application for constitutional bail by National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity presidential candidate BRIAN MUNDUBILE, his running mate MAKEBI ZULU and 16 others.

The adjournment followed an application by Acting Chief State Advocate CHIBESA MULONDA, who asked the court to allow the State more time to file an affidavit in opposition to the application.

Mr. MULONDA made the application in chambers before a panel of three judges led by Ndola High Court Judge DERRICK MULENGA.

The other judges on the panel are DAVIS CHIBWILI and IREEN WISHIMANGA, who directed the State to file its affidavit in opposition by today, Monday, October 19, 2026.

Meanwhile, defence lawyer SAKWIBA SIKOTA told journalists that all the accused persons were within the court premises and available for the proceedings.

Mr. MUNDUBILE and his co-accused are seeking an order for their release, either unconditionally or on reasonable conditions the court may consider appropriate to ensure their attendance at trial or any preliminary proceedings.

The 18 accused men are also seeking a declaration that their continued detention without trial, in view of the period they have spent in custody, violates their rights under the law.

Among the accused are former Anglican Bishop TREVOR MWAMBA, business executive HARRY FINDLEY and three former commandos.

Mr. MUNDUBILE, Mr. ZULU and the 16 others are facing various charges, including treason, sedition and offences relating to the prohibition of terrorism, following the August 13, 2026 general election.
