HISTORY WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE WITHOUT PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU – ZRP CONDEMNS DELIBERATE OMISSION OF LUNGU ON INDEPENDENCE CHITENGE

The history of Zambia will be incomplete without mentioning the name of Zambia’s 6th President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. May His Soul Rest in Peace.

As the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP), we are perturbed and deeply disappointed that Government printed the 2026 Independence Anniversary Chitenge material bearing portraits of all the late Presidents of Zambia except that of late President Edgar Lungu.

We strongly suspect that this omission is deliberate and politically motivated.

We wish to ask President Hakainde Hichilema: Did you use your personal money to print this Chitenge, or was it taxpayers’ money? If it was taxpayers’ money, then this Chitenge belongs to all Zambians and must reflect all our Presidents.

If not, we strongly condemn this cheap, petty and highly regrettable mistake by the UPND Government.

We are particularly disturbed because this is not long after the same HH regime moved the 18th October National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation — which was declared by late President Edgar Lungu — to 29th December. We feel this move was aimed at erasing and annihilating President Lungu’s legacy.

We wish to tell President Hichilema and his Government that there is nothing you will do to delete President Edgar Chagwa Lungu from the history of Zambia. He served this country as President for 7 years and his contribution is indelible.

We urge President Hakainde Hichilema to heal and move on if he has personal issues. Leadership demands magnanimity.

Zambia belongs to all of us.

Wright Musoma
President
Zambia Republican Party (ZRP)
