Jewish Support for Democrats Collapses in New York as CNN Highlights 36-Point Shift Toward Republicans

CNN data analyst Harry Enten walked viewers through Siena College polling averages for New York’s U.S. House generic ballot among Jewish voters. The numbers show a sharp erosion of a once-reliable Democratic constituency.

“Look at this polling among Jewish voters. Look at this. In 2018, Democrats were ahead by 40 points. In 2022, 49 points. Look at this, the average of polls this year, it’s just 13 points. It’s just 13 points. That is a shift of what, 36 points? 36 points away from the Democrats.”

Enten described the drop in stark terms. “Their lead has absolutely tumbled into the Hudson River among Jewish voters. Yes, they are still ahead, but we are talking about historically strong numbers for Republicans among Jewish voters.”

He linked the movement to recent events in the state. “It definitely seems to me that the developments over the past few years, at least in New York, at least in this polling, has had a huge impact on how Jewish voters say they are going to vote.”

The figures come from the same Siena data Enten has cited in related segments on the governor’s race, where Democratic advantages among Jewish voters have narrowed in similar fashion. New York holds the largest Jewish population of any state, making the shift consequential for House races and statewide contests. While Democrats retain a lead in the aggregated numbers, the magnitude of the change marks the largest recent movement away from the party among this demographic in the available polling.- DTP
