🇿🇼 ROBERT MUGABE: THE LIBERATOR WHO REFUSED TO LEAVE POWER!

For 37 years, Robert Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe. He survived colonial imprisonment, a brutal liberation war, political opposition, international pressure and one of Africa’s worst economic crises.

But in November 2017, the unthinkable happened.

The military that had helped protect his government turned against him.

At the age of 93, the man who had led Zimbabwe since independence was forced to resign.

But how did it all begin?

Robert Mugabe was once celebrated as a liberation hero who helped end Ian Smith’s white minority rule in Rhodesia.

When Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980, millions celebrated. Mugabe promised reconciliation, expanded education and healthcare, and became a powerful symbol of African liberation.

Yet his presidency would take a darker turn.

⚫ The Gukurahundi killings in Matabeleland, where thousands of civilians lost their lives.

🌍 The bitter rivalry between Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo.

🌾 The controversial land reform programme that sought to address colonial dispossession but was accompanied by violence and economic disruption.

💰 Hyperinflation that destroyed savings and led to Zimbabwe issuing a 100-trillion-dollar banknote.

⚖️ The political battles with Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC.

🔥 The dramatic power struggle involving Grace Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zimbabwe’s military.

And then came the ultimate irony.

In 1980, Zimbabweans celebrated because Robert Mugabe had become their leader.

In 2017, Zimbabweans celebrated because he was no longer their president.

🎬 In our Peak World documentary, we explore the complete story of Robert Gabriel Mugabe, from his early life and liberation struggle to his rise to power, controversial presidency and dramatic downfall.
