SAMUEL ETO’O HAS SHARED AN INCREDIBLE STORY ABOUT HIS FIRST DAY AT REAL MADRID!
At just 16 years old, Eto’o left Cameroon and travelled to Spain to begin his football career. But when he arrived at Madrid’s Barajas Airport, something unexpected happened.
NOBODY FROM REAL MADRID CAME TO PICK HIM UP. 😳
🎙️ “When I travelled to Spain at 16 years old, no executive or associate from Real Madrid came to pick me up at Barajas Airport.”
Alone in a foreign country, the young Eto’o was frightened until he met an African street sweeper working at the airport.
🎙️ “I was a bit scared until I spoke with an African street sweeper who worked there. He told me that if I waited for him to finish his work shift, he would take me to the club. To this day, I still keep in touch with him.”
Despite everything, Eto’o insists he holds no resentment towards Real Madrid.
🎙️ “I hold no grudges against Real Madrid; on the contrary, that experience helped me grow and realise that no one was going to hand me anything in my career.”
Years later, Eto’o would become one of the greatest African footballers in history, winning TWO Champions League titles with Barcelona and another with Inter Milan.
