CHIRUNDU MP SITS ON GROUND AFTER BEING DENIED SEAT DURING INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS.

Chirundu Independent Member of Parliament, Hon. James Mwanja, has sparked widespread debate after being denied a chair during Independence Day celebrations in Chirundu District, Southern Province.

In a move that has left many Zambians talking, the lawmaker decided to sit on the bare ground after being informed that there was no seat available for him in the front row.

Rather than leave the event, Hon. Mwanja chose to sit on the ground, a decision that has attracted mixed reactions and raised questions about the treatment of opposition and independent political leaders at government functions.

Some Zambians have condemned the incident, accusing the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) of political intolerance and alleged discrimination against leaders who do not belong to the governing party.

Others have questioned how an elected Member of Parliament, representing the very constituency hosting the celebrations, could find himself without a designated seat at such an important national event.

The incident has also sparked debate over whether the alleged lack of seating was a deliberate act of political humiliation or simply an organisational oversight.
