ZELENSKYY: TELLING THE TRUTH IS ONE OF OUR WEAPONS
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Zelenskyy has used direct speech like a sharp blade, bringing the consequences of the war into rooms where they might otherwise be softened by diplomatic language.
“Telling the truth is one of our weapons,” he said. “To be open and clear. Not to play games with our partners. That is my rule.”
His message comes as Ukraine faces intense pressure over its defence and the terms of a possible peace. Zelenskyy says speaking openly about threats is part of his responsibility as president—and part of Ukraine’s defence strategy.
That responsibility can mean uncomfortable conversations with governments whose support Ukraine needs. Maintaining those relationships matters, but so does explaining when a decision could leave Ukrainians more exposed. Silence has consequences when the issues being discussed involve air defence, military assistance and security guarantees.
Zelenskyy described his diplomatic work as part of the same national effort carried by soldiers at the front and people working throughout Ukraine. Each has a different responsibility; his includes using every available diplomatic channel to defend the country.
For the people living through this war, clear language matters. They need their circumstances understood, their security taken seriously and promises translated into action. A president speaking on their behalf cannot afford to make those realities easier for others to ignore.
