Ndola teacher sues mother-in-law over interference in his personal affairs
A 33-YEAR-OLD teacher of Ndola has sued his mother-in-law in the Ndola Main Local Court, accusing her of interfering in his personal affairs.
Greenfold Chipunda of Chifubu Township sued Dyness Nonde, seeking to have her stop allegedly interfering in his life.
The matter came up for hearing before Magistrate Bizaliel Nyoni, where Chipunda told the court that he wanted his in-laws to stop following him around.
However, in her defence, Nonde told the court that marital problems between Chipunda and her daughter began shortly after the couple got married.
She said the couple frequently disagreed, with arguments occurring about three times a month.
Nonde added that whenever her daughter expressed a desire to leave the marriage, she would encourage her to stay and work things out with her husband.
She said the disagreements eventually led the couple to seek legal intervention.
Nonde further told the court that Chipunda had complained that her daughter was dirty and failed to clean their matrimonial home.
She also accused him of failing to provide for his children and alleged that he frequently insulted her whenever he visited their home.
In his judgment, Magistrate Nyoni advised Chipunda to reconsider his position, particularly in the interest of his children.
The magistrate observed that distancing himself from his in-laws was not advisable, as it could strain family relations and make it difficult for them to visit should anything happen to the children.
He urged both parties to resolve their differences with the children’s welfare in mind.
“You cannot distance yourself from other family members because of children. So I have dismissed the case because the family cannot restrain you,” Magistrate Nyoni said
