ELON MUSK BECOMES PART-TIME OWNER OF CNN AS TRUMP CHEERS THE SHIFT

Elon Musk has poured roughly one billion dollars into Skydance, the new media giant that swallowed Warner Bros. Discovery and now controls CNN along with CBS, Paramount, HBO, and a stack of other legacy brands. The investment, first reported by Semafor in late October 2026, landed weeks after the massive Paramount-Warner merger closed and left the combined company hunting for billions in cost cuts. Musk, long critical of the old media order, now holds a stake in the very network that spent years attacking him and the Trump movement.

President Trump did not hide his reaction. Asked whether Musk should run CNN, Trump told Benny Johnson, “Well, I like it, certainly better than what we have right now!” The line landed with the force of a man who has watched CNN treat his presidency, his voters, and basic facts as optional. Eric Daugherty captured the moment on X, declaring it official that Musk is a part-time owner of CNN and that Trump is reveling in the turnaround. A short video collage of Musk smiling, the CNN logo, and Trump grinning drove the point home for thousands of viewers.

The timing is hard to miss. Trump is back in the White House after the 2024 election. Musk already flipped Twitter into X and used it to challenge the old gatekeepers. Now his capital sits inside the company that owns the network once synonymous with Democratic talking points and selective outrage. Skydance faces heavy debt and a mandate to slash costs. That pressure, plus new ownership ties that include the Ellison family, creates room for real editorial change instead of another round of the same soft-focus coverage of the left and hard scrutiny of everyone else.

Critics will call it billionaire capture. Supporters see the opposite: a market correction after years of one-sided media power. CNN’s ratings and credibility problems did not appear overnight. Viewers left for platforms that do not treat half the country as the enemy. Musk’s stake does not hand him a newsroom desk, but it does put skin in the game at a company that can no longer pretend the old model is working. Trump’s blunt preference for something better than the current product says what many Americans have thought for a long time.

How the tables have turned is no longer a slogan. It is a reported investment, a presidential quote, and a network that once dominated the cable dial now answering to different money and different expectations. Whether Musk’s influence shows up in coverage or stays limited to the balance sheet, the old CNN monopoly on narrative is finished.
