TRUCK DRIVER DIVORCED FOR SECRETLY MARRYING TWO MORE WIVES.

A woman of Lusaka told Matero Local Court that she lost interest in her husband, a truck driver, after he secretly married two other woman.

Sipiwe Mwanza, 31, told the court that she got married to Aaron Phiri, 35, in 2012, and they have three children together.

She said the couple had been separated for two years and six months due, according to her, to her husband’s extramarital affairs.

“I have decided to file for divorce, your honour, because of adultery. My husband has married and had children with other women. At some point, he went to Mongu for work, where he married a woman who now has a three-month-old baby. He stayed there for over a year, your honour.

After Mongu, he started working in Mufumbwe, where he also got another woman and married her,” she said.

Mwanza further told the court that her husband had repeatedly claimed their marriage had ended three years ago.

“Since he has been lying that our marriage ended three years ago, I have come to court to grant his wishes. I want this marriage to be dissolved. As if lying is not enough, my husband brought another woman into our matrimonial home. I found her washing for him. I am tired of being emotionally tortured,” she said.

However, when he took the stand before Magistrate Moses Lubuwa, Phiri said his wife was disrespectful but maintained that he still loved her and wanted to save their marriage.

“I do not want to end my marriage, your honour. She is still my wife,” he said.

Phiri explained that the woman Mwanza found washing clothes at their home was merely a house help he had employed. He admitted having a child with another woman but denied his wife’s allegations that he had multiple relationships.

“Yes, I have one child with another woman, but I don’t have multiple women like she is claiming,” Phiri said.

In his ruling, Magistrate Lubuwa granted the couple divorce and ordered Phiri to compensate Mwanza with K15,000, with an initial payment of K2,000.
