TRUMP’S ALLIES LOOK FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME AFTER MIDTERM DEFEAT

Donald Trump may turn against senior officials over the war in Iran following the Republicans’ election defeat, according to CNN.

“Trump feels he was misled,” one adviser told the network. “And someone has to pay for it.”

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is reportedly becoming a focus of that backlash. Republican lawmakers and allies are privately arguing that he helped persuade Trump to attack Iran without an adequate exit strategy or a plan for the political consequences.

But CNN also reports that Republican strategists acknowledge the party’s problems extended well beyond the war. Despite that, many remain reluctant to hold Trump himself responsible.

That raises an obvious question: if the president authorized the war and continued defending it, how much responsibility can credibly be shifted onto his advisers?

For Ukraine and America’s other partners, the consequences matter beyond Washington’s internal disputes. Any leadership changes could affect defence policy and negotiations at a critical moment.

Accountability requires examining the decisions themselves—including those made by the president. Replacing an official would not, by itself, answer how the administration entered the war or what it intends to do next.
