🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Heavy Police Presence as Mundubile, Makebi Bail Hearing Gets Underway
Security has been tightened outside the Lusaka High Court, where opposition politician Brian Mundubile, lawyer Makebi Zulu and 16 other applicants are appearing in a constitutional bail hearing.
The 18 applicants have already arrived at the court, with police riot vehicles deployed outside the premises amid heightened security.
Proceedings are now underway before Justices Derrick Mulenga, Davies Chibwili and Ireen Wishimanga.
Mundubile earlier disclosed that the court had indicated there would be no further adjournment, with the hearing expected to proceed and a ruling anticipated.
The applicants have remained in custody since August following Zambia’s general elections and were last brought from Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison on 29 October.
“We pray for peace, openness and justice for all Zambians,” Mundubile wrote in a Facebook update ahead of the proceedings.
The court has yet to deliver its ruling.
