DA CLAIMS HISTORIC BREAKTHROUGH: PARTY PROJECTS MORE THAN ONE MILLION BLACK SOUTH AFRICANS VOTED FOR IT, OVERTAKING THE EFF IN SUPPORT FROM BLACK VOTERS!
The Democratic Alliance says the 2026 local government elections could mark an important shift in South African politics, with its internal election modelling projecting that more than one million Black South Africans voted for the party.
The projection was announced by DA Federal Council Chairperson Ashor Sarupen at the IEC National Results Operation Centre. According to the party, its estimated support among Black voters has also moved ahead of the EFF.
The DA believes these figures point to growing support beyond its traditional voter base, suggesting that its appeal may be expanding across different communities.
Sarupen argued that South African politics should increasingly be shaped by issues such as service delivery, economic opportunity, dignity and accountable government, rather than assumptions about how people vote based on race or background.
However, the DA stressed that these are its own projections, not final certified figures. The official results will determine the actual outcome.
If confirmed, this could become a significant development in South Africa’s political landscape and raise important questions about changing voter behaviour ahead of future elections.
Are South African voters beginning to move beyond traditional political and racial voting patterns?
