“THE 7TH DAY WILL FIND ME IN MY PREFERRED BURIAL GROUND” — OFWONO OPONDO RESPONDS TO MUHOOZI
A political confrontation has taken a more dramatic turn after Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba reportedly gave government spokesperson and Older Persons MP Ofwono Opondo seven days to apologise over remarks directed at him.
Responding on X, Opondo made a striking reference to his own mortality, saying:
“I have not made my death wish, but if this is this accurate, the 7th day will find me in Mulanda-Ayago, my preferred burial ground.”
Opondo tagged President Yoweri Museveni, Parliament and senior government officials in the post.
His response has raised questions about how seriously he interprets the CDF’s seven-day ultimatum and whether the dispute could escalate beyond a political exchange.
The episode also puts Uganda’s institutions under the spotlight: Can disagreements between senior public officials be resolved through dialogue and established legal and institutional channels rather than public ultimatums?
With the seven-day clock now running, attention is turning to what happens next.
