GUY SCOTT’S WIVES AND CHILDREN: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
Following the passing of Zambia’s former Vice-President and Acting President, Dr. Guy Scott, a recurring question has flooded social media platforms: How many children did Dr. Scott have, and where are they now?
To clear up the speculation, we can turn directly to Dr. Scott’s own words. In a 2004 interview he granted me—which I republished in 2022 in my book, Conversations with Memorable Personalities—he laid out his family structure with characteristic openness.
In a nutshell, Dr. Scott had four children: three sons from his first marriage and an adopted daughter during his marriage to his second wife, Charlotte. His first wife was Croatian; they married in 1966 and divorced in 1988. He later married Charlotte Harland, whom he met in Mpika in 1991.
Here is the exact excerpt from our conversation (Pages 321-322):

Amos Malupenga: Before we continue on this political line, let’s digress a bit and talk about your personal life. You did tell me earlier that you were divorced…
Dr. Guy Scott: I got divorced about 1988. And when I went to Mpika to campaign for that seat in 1991, I found my present wife, Charlotte, was working there as a development expert on a British aid project called the District Development Support Program. While I was there, I scooped the seat and I scooped the woman as well. So, I came back from Mpika as the MP with a new wife.
We have adopted a daughter. We met her at Kasisi when she was two and fell in love with her. She is now ten years old. Her name is Thandi, and she is very well known throughout the town for her charm, looks, and cleverness.
My three boys from my first wife are all grown up. One is a computer expert and he lives in Poland; the other has a university degree but his main love is football, and he lives in London. My third son is starting an organic farm in Kafue. So, I have four kids.
