HH MAYBE  DISQUALIFIED IN 2026 ELECTIONS, HAS HE GROOMED A SUCCESSOR?- Sishuwa Sishuwa

HAS HH GROOMED A SUCCESSOR?

Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa writes on X:

What I find revealing about some UPND supporters is their refusal to be led into paths that might disturb their rather narrow or limited view of things. Here is what I wrote yesterday:

“IF Hichilema won’t be on the ballot in 2026, who inspires confidence as an alternative presidential candidate in the UPND? If it is Nalumango, will the party accept what would be a first since its creation in 1998: a presidential candidate from outside Southern Province?”

I started the message with the word “IF” but note that many people are refusing to imagine and consider the possibility that he may not be on the ballot in 2026. Yet there are many possible scenarios that can lead to this outcome. I can highlight four in no order of importance.

1. He can choose not to run again for whatever reason. Were he to do so, no one can force him to change his mind. Yes, he is eligible to run for another term but this does not mean he has to. If he exercises this option, is there a specific individual in the UPND who gives confidence to be an alternative and readymade presidential candidate? Has the president raised alternative leaders or has his leadership style stifled the creation of such leaders? If yes, why cant people simply share their thoughts?

2. He can be disqualified by the Constitutional Court for corruption after nominations, as provided for in Article 52 (6) of Zambia’s constitution. This possibility might explain why he wants to remove corruption from the constitution, using Bill 7, as a sufficient ground on which anyone may petition a court to invalidate the completed nomination of a candidate – corrupt incumbent presidents are vulnerable targets here. I know that Bill 7 is coming back to parliament in the next parliamentary session starting next month. Now ask yourself: Why would a president seek to amend a constitutional provision that provides for the disqualification of a candidate who is proven by court (only after trial) to be corrupt? How does this proposed constitutional amendment advance public interest?

3. He can be removed from the office of president for gross misconduct or violating the constitution, step down on his own for whatever reason, or be disqualified for reasons of mental or physical incapacity, as per the relevant constitutional clauses.

4. He can die before the next election since he is, like the rest of us, mortal. By operation of the law, this would see Nalumango becoming Zambia’s president, with major consequences on who will be the party’s candidate in 2026. (Do they field her in the election or do they go with someone like Gary Nkombo? What would be the consequences of either choice?) To state this possibility is not to wish him ill; it is merely to acknowledge its existence as a possibility.

So, the question I asked is, in my view, valid and relevant and I am keen to listen to possible answers to it. It does not mean that any of the outlined scenarios will happen. They are stated here for purposes of discussion because they exist as possibilities.

We often put the spotlight on the opposition (and we should), but it is a fair question to pose to the ruling party beyond their presumptive nominee. Unfortunately, instead of addressing it, those responding to it are panicking or only insulting.

Perhaps because they find the question inconvenient or they don’t like the likely answer that comes to their mind, they can only get angry with me for daring to ask it.

  1. Sishua,IF you died tonight, have you written your last Will.Is it in your Will if any to be buried in South Africa?
I ask this, because you can die any time from now

  3. This one smokes too much ganja.Lecturing History is now confusing him,he is thinking we are all his students he is misleading. He is not a good state of mind.

    • Ngoma Yamano
That’s what happens when an arrogant man realises there are other people who are more intelligent than himself. They begin to try and overtake their limits and hence this warped arguments from Sishua

  4. When analysts run out of what to analyse! The impotence of Sishuwa’s criticism of HH. Him and his clique are pursuing a theory that says keep on criticising him, so that by 2026 majorly voters will vote against him. It’s a poorly thought out theory. It is a wrong assumption it won’t work. The critics of HH shud realise that there’s are just words, articles and all sorts of mere rhetoric. How much can rhetoric do against the Dailly and Countrywide actions by HH and his govt which impact the pipo positively? No matter how Sishuwa writes, how much of it reach the voters? How much of those voters who see this criticism pay attention? Does this criticism amount to making any voter doubt the good intentions of govt to better the lives of the pipo? No ways
In the end this criticism becomes just noise to the pipo 2026 is coming and Sishuwa and his clique will learn the hard way

  5. Just say that you DAILY wish and pray that one of your Options happen to HH before 2026, don’t hide under the word “IF”. Who doesn’t know that?

    • It’s really sad to see how people can be so deprived of logical reasoning!!!
Shishuwa is only provoking a debate in these hypothetical situations . That’s all.
Hopefully you will come to terms once your rule is over, whenever this comes to pass.
Of course there’s Bill 7 to entrench your rule forever.

      • Mr. Observer, there is no deprivation of logical reasoning here, and why are you sad, Sir, unless you are introspecting? Illogical reasoning is provoking unnecessary debates on hypothetical situations. What is the motive driving Sishuwa to provoke such a debate? Tell me of any past and present Zambian President of a Political Party who groomed a Successor, and if he did, will not the same loudmouthed Zambians accuse him of trying to perpetuate a Dynasty and stifling Democracy? Should any of the Sishuwa prayerful Options happen, what is wrong with Mrs. Nalumango taking over, or indeed any other non-Tonga speaking UPND member? Why did Sishuwa bring in Gary Nkombo and Southern province? Why are you playing “Ostrich”? Why is the Tonga Tribalism considered worse than the Bemba Tribalism (you remember the K200,000 paid by PF Presidential Candidates, how many were Bemba speaking?) In my opinion UPND is predominantly Tonga just like PF is predominantly Bemba. The sooner Zambians stop pretending, the better for all of us and our country.

        • What a powerful brain is, in Sitali. Just to add a little, there is no need for HH to groom someone because power to do so and choose a candidate is in the people when that time comes. Sishuwa and his supporters are just on the negative side through out, I don’t know how they see this as a development to the country, Imagine if people now start spending 30min thinking about Sishuwa’s questions, will that develop the country or by the end of the year it would have delayed alot of development due to time spent on nonsense thinking?

  6. Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa, a historian, lacks solutions to present and instead offers regressive statements. He will never engage in constructive debate, as he is consumed by hatred and hypocrisy, perpetually looking backward.

His theories are rooted in the past, while others focus on advancing Zambia. Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa seems to excel only in discussing tribal issues, which are trivial and nonsensical. Development should be about introducing positive and innovative ideas rather than fixating on unfounded allegations from the past.

The more Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa indulges in his delusions, the more frustrated he becomes, as he lacks the intellect to recognize what is beneficial. It is perilous for a society like Zambia to have individuals who spend their time fixated on negativity and offering disparaging remarks. Effective advocacy involves presenting solutions and alternatives rather than merely disseminating propaganda.

  7. Iwe sishuwa….who are you grooming? How many Zambians have you mentored to excel and attain a PhD. Instead you prove how unpatriotic you when you went to teach at an elite school?
Who from your village have you helped support? In South Africa how many kids are you showing what and how to excel? Big zero…always wanting to lecture to others but you had people who helped attain that PhD. Who recommended you to that job you have. Instead when you get there you “kick the ladder” so that its only you. Look at the work Chipimo is doing. Can you emulate such values? Stop lecturering and lets see what you can do for society. Otherwise youre nothing but a selfish person only interested in your own voice.

  8. Dr. Sishuwa puts so many people of the back foot. They even get heavily constipated in a bid to challenge Sishuwa’s thoughts.
People must learn to simply put their thoughts across as well, than the nonsensical challenges supported by …… freemasons
