CHIPATA – PARAMOUNT Chief Mphezeni of the Ngoni people says if things go bad for his chiefdom, he will run to the government for help and not the opposition.

Speaking when Labour and Social Security minister Brenda Tambatamba paid a courtesy call on him at his Ekuphendukeni Palace in Chipata, Mphezeni assured the government of his support noting that he can never betray them by working with the opposition.

He also urged government to continue delivering development to the people of Zambia and desist from paying attention to critics.

The traditional leader further commended the UPND administration for being non-selective when delivering development to the country.

He said government had done well in terms of improving the welfare of all citizens in every part of the country.

Ala mukwai thats the way its supposed to be. A chief cant be partisan because he will stay longer in his office than the democratically elected president. So he cant be loyally supporting a political party like those Southern Province Chiefs did with HH. He can alienate his people from government and they will suffer. Chiefs have no financial power like in the pre-colonialism era

Chiefs are not MPs and they have no financial power like in the pre-colonialism era so they just have to grovel around the government.
