IRGC Navy Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz Until End of U.S. Intervention

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed “until further notice,” declaring that the strategic waterway will remain shut until what it describes as the end of U.S. military intervention in the region.

In a statement, the IRGC said the measure is intended to counter American military operations and warned that any attempt to challenge the closure would be met with an appropriate response.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, with roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway. Any prolonged disruption could have significant consequences for international energy markets, global shipping, and regional security.

There has not yet been independent confirmation that shipping through the strait has fully ceased, and U.S. authorities have not immediately commented on the IRGC’s announcement. The situation remains fluid as governments and commercial shipping operators closely monitor developments.
