They met while Atsu was playing in Portugal for Porto.

The lovebirds tied the knot in 2012 and had three children; a girl and two boys.

Last evening Mrs Atsu was at the Newcastle United v Liverpool match where homage was paid to the 31-year-old former Geordie who was discovered dead in Turkey, February 18, after the earthquakes that struck the country in the first week of the month.

His elder brother and twin sister were present when the body was recovered from the rubble.

A Christian as his name suggests, Atsu used to share Biblical scriptures on social media and did a lot of charity work.

He is known to have paid Ghanaian cedis for people to be freed from jail in Ghana for petty offences.

He was also an Ambassador for an organisation supporting disadvantaged kids called Arms Around Children.

A famous Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Iweuke popularly known Crazy Crown claimed Atsu offered to pay his school fees up to university when Iweuke’s dad died in 2012.

Atsu left England after playing for Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth and Newcastle for Saudi Arabia.

He also had loan spells in Spain and Holland in his career.

He later joined Turkish side Hatayspor for whom he scored a winning goal-a stunning free kick against Kasimpasa on February 5, a day before the deadly earthquake which took over 43, 000 people struck.

On the eve of the earthquake, it was reported that Atsu cancelled his air ticket to leave Turkey to visit family.

Adored by Ghanaians and admired across the continent for his sublime skills, Atsu made his Black Stars debut on June 1, 2012 scoring after just 39 minutes and creating an assist in a victory over Lesotho prompting many fans to acclaim him as the “Ghanaian Messi!”

He was selected and played all three matches for Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Under now Zambia boss Avram Grant, Atsu emerged player of the tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Ghana lost to Ivory Coast on penalties and netted a CAF voted goal of the tournament.

Speaking about his now widow, Atsu said “I met my wife in Portugal and you can see we have a beautiful family. We’ve been together for nine to ten years and I just love her.”

We just loved to see Atsu play.

Our hearts go out to his widow, kids and his family including the Ghanaian football fraternity for the untimely loss of Christian Atsu.

Heartbroken Marie posted to Instagram thanking those who posted messages of goodwill 12 days after the body of her late husband was discovered, “…this is a hard time, as he was the father of my three children.”

Father God Jehovah allowed it that His son could join heaven now.

RIP Christian.🙏
