I have read this well crafted write up and largely agree with it. However I have two issues I don’t agree with Laura here.
Laura says that:
“Let me end by reiterating that *this tribalism which stems from the current EL-HH rivalry* is no longer about the two men.”
I don’t think Laura is intepreting the current situation correctly. This whole Country knows that tribalism is by the PF. But this tribalism does not stem from a rivalry between ECL and HH. Rather it is PF who are the author and implementer of the tribalism. Tribalism by PF does not have roots because two men ECL and HH are jostling for power. When did HH throw the tribal tag? I don’t remember so. Yet this “sibling”, ECL keeps on claiming HH is a tribalist without any ounce of evidence. Belonging to the Tonga ethnic group must never be synonymous with being a tribalist. So, I have serious reservations when Laura inteprets things that way. Those with her contact must tell her that.
Secondly, to say “Burning a house down because *two siblings could not agree on who gets the scopo of the bread.”* may look like a good objective statement. But it is not. I sit here and ask, “Why should we put the aggressor, ECL, who is more than ready to burn Zambia down because Zambians don’t want him to continue ruling them, be put at the same level as HH with a completely different approach?” Just like Kambwili, ECL is ready to burn down Zambia if he cannot maintain power genuinely. ECL has an evil agenda to save himself by covering his bad habits. In the process ECL is more than ready to destroy Zambia. HH does not have such type of approach. HH’s only sin, which Zambians now fully appreciate, is vying for the highest office because he wants to serve the people. So, two different agendas.
Now, Laura has made a nice write up. But I strongly disagree with those two aspects of her well intended analysis. ECL and HH are poles apart. One man (HH) has genuine love for this Country; the other man (ECL) loves himself (and not the Country) and in this instance, he knows his actions the past five years will attract serious consequences if he loses power. Therefore, at what point do we put HH and ECL in the same WhatsApp Group? The only thing the two share is that they are Presidential candidates.
