Reflections on PF founding Father President Michael Chilufya Sata

0

28th October, 2020

Copperbelt—-Today, we join millions of Zambians and the rest of the world in remembering the selfless life of His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya Sata.

The President Michael Chilufya Sata had a great passion for Zambia and his passion was reflected in the several developmental projects he initiated.

His humility and love for the poor made him dear to the people especially the youths.

What really inspires me from the late President is his courageous, eminence and availability to serve Zambians.

As youths we need to follow the footsteps of Mr Sata by having a clear focus of what we want to achieve in life.

Our forefathers had died for us to be free from imperialists and this time we must not engage in violence or be used as tools of violence, rather we must be equal partners in development.

As we celebrate his life of fearlessness and hardwork, we must be tolerant to divergent views like Mr Sata who had a big heart to forgive.

His life style should be a source of inspirational because Mr Sata was the very epitome of love, wisdom and he knew God.

This is because we have no enemies in politics, we only differ on ideals, so let us disagree to agree.

To all the youths pursuing a career in politics, Mr Sata is a true model to follow in order to succeed and contribute meaningfully to the country.

As youths, we have a lot to learn from this great man of the soil of Zambia who had a never giveup attitude. His selfless life, desire to stand with the poor, his humility, tolerance, determination and focus, is what today inspires us as youths to stand strong.

President Michael Chilufya Sata remained focused despite being called names. He remained a man of the people.

In politics, he has inspired many of us on how to remain focused and to be on my own the advice he gave me in the presence of then Minister of Defence at the same time Minister Home Affairs and Secretary General of PF in Ndola at Kabelenga Presidential Guest House now HE Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Even as we celebrate his life today, we still remember and remain loyal to him even in his death. It will be important for of us who believed in his legacy to get together and make it a reality through unity of purpose, peace and love for one another.

To me as a pupil and student from Michael Chilufya Sata academy and School of politics will describe him as my Teacher and my political encyclopedia.

It is pleasing to note that the man who took over from Michael Chilufya Sata, His Excellency President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has also proved to have the attitude of the former President.

Tolerance is key to the governance of the country. President Lungu has being called names, but he has remained focused.

As we remember President Michael Chilufya Sata, we want to wish our current President Dr Edgar Lungu to continue with this path of love and unity he has shown to the Zambian people.

Continue to Rest in the Good hand of our Lord.

WHEN TWO ELEPHANTS FIGHT ITS GRASS THAT SUFFERS, PAY MOPANI MINERS FIRST THEIR BENEFITS

0

PRESS STATEMENT

28 TH OCTOBER 2020

WHEN TWO ELEPHANTS FIGHT ITS GRASS THAT SUFFERS, PAY MOPANI MINERS FIRST THEIR BENEFITS.

Glencoe has offered Government to buy all its shares. Looking at the level of investment Glencoe has pumped in both Mufulira and Nkana mines, it’s likely Glencoe is not asking for not less than 4.5 billion USD. Assuming that is the amount Glencoe is asking for and that the PF regime is broke, Government should tell Zambians where they are getting this money. We demand that miners are paid their full benefits first. As UPND we are saddened how PF is destroying our mining industry. When two elephants fight it’s the grass that suffers; miners and Zambians will ultimately suffer.

The PF regime should be very cautious on who they choose as a partner. From inception most investors were and are still only interested in the smelter and refinery departments to treat cheap concentrate. During privatization it was decided to sell Mufulira mine as a single unit, hence the on and off problems of putting both mining and concentrator departments on care and maintenance. This is likely to happen again, Mufulira and Nkana mines are old mines that are very expensive to run profitably. The new shaft at Mufulira is meant to hoist copper ore straight from 1690 meter level straight to surface, we doubt if ZCCM IH will sustain this operations.

If the PF regime makes any mistake in handling Mopani mines, this will result in a lot of problems for the miners and the Country at large. Already PF has messed up the issue of KCM and this should serve as a lesson and avoid falling in the same trap. Once a mistake is made miners should brace themselves for massive job losses and this will also mark the end of Zambia being a major copper producing country.

The idea of only PF cadres benefitting from our minerals as the case is at KCM is criminal. Zambians have a choice of either going down with PF or liberate themselves by voting out this corrupt regime. Miners should refuse to be hoodwinked by these PF crocks and thieves. PF is worsening the already weak economic situation by taking politics to our mines. This Country needs productivity in all sectors of the economy to pay nkongole. Penalties and fines will not pay our huge debt.

Those Saying Zambia Is A Christian Nation Are Pagans, Charges Archbishop Mpundu

THOSE SAYING ZAMBIA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION ARE PAGANS, CHARGES ARCHBISHOP MPUNDU…says Fr Chilinda has no sense of judgment

By Merlyn Mwanza

Those who are saying Zambia is a Christian nation are pagans and are using that word to lure some people into something that doesn’t exist, charges Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu.

And Archbishop Mpundu says Father Chilinda despite being a ‘wonderful’ man, has no sense of judgement.

Meanwhile, Chapter One Foundation executive director Linda Kasonde warned that the Church and State should not mix as doing so is dangerous.

Featuring on Radio Phoenix’s “Let the People Talk” programme this morning, Archbishop Mpundu dismissed that Zambia is a Christian nation, adding that those propping up such a narrative were pagans who have no understanding of what it meant to be a Christian nation.

The charismatic Archbishop said Zambia was yet to become a democracy.

“Zambia is not a theocracy. Theocracy is actually when people think God is ruling when in fact they are ruling. Zambia is yet to become a democracy. There is so much attempt in this country for people to liken or mistake the reign of God with the reign of humanity. When Jesus was being interrogated before his execution, they asked him, ‘are you a King’?. And he answered, ‘yes I am but my kingdom is not of this world’. Those who are saying Zambia is a Christian nation, they are pagans,” the Archbishop charged during a radio programme monitored by Daily Revelation. “They are just using that word to lure some people into something that doesn’t exist. And all the time we have been telling them (that) Zambia is not a Christian nation. You don’t make a Christian nation by declaration…by someone who woke up one day…on the wrong side of their head (saying) Zambia is a Christian nation. It doesn’t mean anything. It is what we do, how we live (our) life, that people are going to say these are Christians.”

The Archbishop said it was unfortunate that the Church in Zambia had been deeply divided by politicians due to the love of money. He said most Churches including Church mother bodies were following politicians’ empty rhetoric blindly merely for personal aggrandization or benefits.

“To build a tabernacle for everyone to be (worshiping) there? Like Caesar? So, (that) you have no checks and balances?” Archbishop Mpundu asked in apparent reference to President Edgar Lungu who is building a National House of Prayer Tabernacle. “That’s what Lungu wants. Let people go where they want to pray. Don’t build this monstrous called the national tabernacle. In fact, they wanted to call (it) a national Cathedral. Do you know what a Cathedral is? K20 million spent on prayer and fasting; that is a shame! If you are really a Christian, do what God wants and we are far from that. Even when it comes to Church mother bodies, some go for money. 30 pieces of silver. Judas sold his own master! It’s happening here in Zambia. (The Church) is divided. It’s a challenge to us. The Church is no longer speaking for the poor, for the weak: it’s going to those who are already powerful.”

And Archbishop Mpundu said the government only wanted the voice of the Church when it is faced with problems. He said whenever he provides counsel on matter of national importance, he is viewed in the wrong context. He cited last elections where President Lungu sent an emissary to him after he had spoken about the potential violence the country was about to experience. He said instead of contacting him directly, the President send Father Charles Chilinda, whom he described as a “wonderful” man, but lacked sense of judgement – to call him.

“There was a big problem at the end of the last elections. Violence had broken out and the president was there. And because it was getting worse. What does he do? He asked Father Chilinda (who) is a wonderful man but he has no sense of judgement, according to me. He comes to me and he says, President Lungu wants to talk to you. He is very worried about this… and so on and so forth. When does he want me? (I asked). No, he wants you right now. I said, you know, I have also my work to do. I will go there after one hour because I am engaged with (other) people, I can’t simply dismiss them. So, after one hour, I told him, (to) tell him I am coming,” he continued explaining. “And I went to State House. I waited three (3) hours to be heard. And after that, it was only two minutes, what can you do about this? I told him, if certain things are not done, there will be violence. Now, there is this violence. It’s up to you now. Then he said, ‘can’t you do something? You issue a statement or something’? I said, we can issue statement, but it’s too late. It’s like closing the gate when the horse has already bolted…and that’s it. On many occasions, many people do not want to listen to us.”

The Archbishop called on the Church not to be divided by greedy politicians at the expense of serving the people of Zambia. He noted that Bill 10 had divided the Church.

“What they (government) wants is Bill 10. Bill 10 is all brainwash. Why? Because in the meantime, they know how to divide and rule. Some of the leaders are bought there. From the look of things, we have not graduated from the “brown envelope” (syndrome) of president (Frederick) Chiluba. They (some Church leaders) have been given things. Some projects, so on and so forth. And tomorrow they will have a different way of speaking things. Sometimes within the same Church, they divide you,” he observed. “And they tell the Church has a very important role… my foot!”

And Kasonde warned Zambians to be careful with the shrewdness of politicians who are fond of merging the Church and the State. She said many countries that have merged the two institutions have had disastrous experience in managing national affairs as well as uniting the people. She cited the Nazi German as a good case in point – where the State used the Church to create divisions which culminated into massacre of its own citizens.

“Zambia as a Christian nation is all hypocrisy. How is Bill 10, which is a creation of man going to make us more Christian? And you only have to look at the way the State is using religion to see that they don’t mean well. For example, we have this National Day of Prayer, meanwhile a few days later, you are roughing up somebody’s wife and child for no real genuine reason. There is just no harmony between what they profess and what they (are) actually doing,” said Kasonde. “There is a real disconnect there. So, I think people shouldn’t be fooled. Historically, religion has been used as a tool to oppress other people. In Nazi German, they even had their own Churches to profess Nazism. Churches and State when they mixed together can be very dangerous; and can be used to divide people; can be used to say some people are better than others.”

Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) president Rueben Lifuka called on Zambians to take interest in the constitution making process. Lifuka said constitution making process should not be used as a pawn to perpetuate politicians’ stay in office.

“The onus is on everyone to take interest so that there is education on the constitution (making process). Politicians are aware of the consequences of Bill 10. There is a distrust as to why the constitution should be amended; it’s a messy. And that’s where we are today. What they (government) should have done is, how do we carry the people with us. Constitution making should not be driven by events. Constitution making is a process to ensure that you do the right thing for the people, not for your party because of an election,” explained Lifuka.

THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE A DICTATOR IS VOTING THEM OUT…Lungu and those in govt will do everything possible to stop opposition activities – Panji Kaunda

THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE A DICTATOR IS VOTING THEM OUT…Lungu and those in govt will do everything possible to stop opposition activities, says Panji

By Patson Chilemba

Ruling PF member Colonel Panji Kaunda says Edgar Lungu and those in government will do everything possible to stop the political activities of Hakainde Hichilema, Chishimba Kambwili and other opposition figures, but urged that the best way to handle a dictator is to vote them out of power.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Col Panji said the outrageous K300,000 bail amount charged on National Democratic Congress leader Kambwili by magistrate Simusamba and the K200,000 on UPND member of parliament Romeo Kang’ombe clearly showed that the whole thing was political and had nothing to do with justice. He said both Kambwili and Kang’ombe were Zambians of bonafide residence, families and standing, therefore wondering why such exorbitant amounts could be charged on them, save to persecute and punish them.

Col Panji said there was a concerted effort not only to punish the opposition using undemocratic means but to also rip them of their resources.

“It seems we are no different to all those dictators abusing the law to fulfill their agenda. We are being led by unstable leadership. We pray in 2022 we shall see through the best way of seeing them off. The best way of seeing off dictators is to see them out of power,” Col Panji said. “But it will be very difficult, people in rural areas don’t even know if the registration period is on or not.”

Col Panji said there was a determination to use whatever means available to stop opposition parties from mobilising, with the added incentive of using more underhand methods to stop the opposition alliance.

“We can see by the actions of leaders in PF that they are desperate to win. So they can do anything. Why are they stopping them from even going to the radio station?” he asked.

On the recent harassment of Kambwili’s wife, Carol and daughter Chanda by the police, Col Panji said he expected President Lungu and those in government not only to condemn police actions, but also to take disciplinary action again the police officers involved.

He said it might be Kambwili’s wife today, but tomorrow it could be First Lady Esther Lungu or even Home Affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo’s wife, hence the need to keep the police in check so that they could operate as a professional and independent body.

“Everybody is a candidate for prison,” said Col Panji. -Daily Revelation

Winning President of Zambia in 2021

0

By Kapelwa Musonda1

He took my hand and asked, “What will you talk about as your prominent selling points when you start campaigning? When I replied, “Of course infrastructure – the roads, airports, clinics and football stadiums that my Government has built all over the country,” he was visibly upset. After a while, he shouted, “That is a recipe for failure.” I was equally flabbergasted by his cold and demoralizing response, so I challenged him, “But we are unstoppable in our transformative agenda of turning Zambia around. Today, we are commissioning the completion of Makeni flyover which is part of the flyover bridges to be constructed under this project. Infrastructure development is a critical catalyst to enhanced economic growth, and therefore my government will continue to invest in infrastructure, such as roads, schools, hospitals, etc.”

Then he said to me, “Umwana ashenda, atasha nina ukunaya.” I asked him, “What do you mean” to which he replied, “But you have visited Ethiopia several times. You mean you don’t see what Ethiopians have done on infrastructure? Besides, most of this state-of-the-art infrastructure is built by Ethiopians themselves, not Chinese.” Then he turned and said to me, “Remember what they used to teach us about Maslow’s law of basic needs?” I replied, “Yes, the law deals with a hierarchy of basic needs. You remember the pyramid of needs with basic needs such as food and shelter as essential needs. Similarly, infrastructure is like basic needs which any Government should build for its people. Surely, if you cannot build infrastructure, what should your own people think of you? What does a family think of a father and husband who has built a house for them? Nothing, because he has an obligation to do that and that cannot be a selling point for him to the family. It is the same as President Trump using economic growth as a selling point when many poor people in America continue to get poorer.”

“So, you mean Zambians will not vote for our party because they cannot eat infrastructure?” “Of course, you are doing a good job in some respects. But you must understand people’s motivations. You have to reposition your party and talk about things that go beyond basic needs and fall under your obvious job description and touch their every day lives. There are other needs that must be fulfilled by Zambians. Maslow talks about needs similar to what an innovative Government must do to its people beyond basic needs. Safety or security, belonging and love, a society without greed and selfishness, trust, morals, good family ties and relationships, a society where children feel protected, can eat three meals a day and go to school and enjoy it, feeling of accomplishment, clean water and surroundings, clean health and environment, and building infrastructure that that has things that prevent disease, hunger and death. When these things are in place, sometimes people don’t even need a physical hospital because they will not get sick.”

In Switzerland for example, citizens don’t even know the Minister of Health. They don’t talk about number of hospitals. They talk about availability of quality medicines and facilities that prevent them from falling ill. When they’re ill, they quickly recover. Transport minister is not known but the benefits of roads are everywhere. No one is late for work or going back home. So, if you want to use infrastructure for campaign, you better talk about what they’re doing as benefits. Is there quality medicine and facilities in hospitals or they’re white elephants, looking beautiful but empty of medicines? Hospitals without good and sustainable beds, water and toilets without running water don’t mean a hospital. Old hospitals are not maintained. If UTH were property maintained, there would be little to build other hospitals in Lusaka. Zambians would probably vote for your party if they see that you can improve existing structures instead of hiding behind the mask of new buildings.

“You have to target your campaign into groups. Of course, there’re Zambians that are benefiting from roads. But these are largely elites who have cars and money to transport foods and other things on the new roads. On the other hand, the majority hardly use those roads. Yet, once in a while they’re also transported on those roads but it is not the same as the elite who use these roads every day. Most people walk, not on these roads but in dust roads that are largely neglected. Yes, you must make the point that roads are important because “roads are the arteries through which the economy pulses. By linking producers to markets, workers to jobs, students to school, and the sick to hospitals, roads are vital to any development agenda.” I really like your assessment and linking roads to development and we will make sure our party addresses that.” “Yes, you should do that. That is what I mean when I talk about targeting but you cannot generalize that roads are important for all Zambians.”

“But let us go back to the innovative needs that you talked about earlier because I think they represent an important approach which our party can learn from.” “That is right. As a party, you have to explain how you intend to address these extremely crucial needs. However, you pretend, people know that this country has lost some morals. Sexual abuses of children, some leaders are taking advantage of poverty and abusing women, leadership is not clean. I have nothing against dancing. But why has dancing, not to make money but simply dancing become more important than working? Zambians spend more of their time dancing than working. From leadership to school children and even babies, everyone is dancing, in particular from the waist. One white person asked me, ‘Why do they dance and smile when they’re poor?’ Like Lionel Richies’ song, Zambians dance all night long. That is not simply a sign of happiness. There’s something else more worrying than happiness.”

“Trust has slipped away, in leadership, ordinary people and children. Trust is very important at leadership and ordinary life levels. We look clever all the time. We talk clever. But those we talk to know who we are inside. Even foreign investors know. You cannot simply sell a story that you have built infrastructure, and have an ennobling environment for investment. Every country has investment incentives. So, investors look for something else which we think are little and will not be noticed. But it is little fire that causes a conflagration. They know that we are lying. We also lack humility. Leaders need to have self-trust and build credibility. They need to build relationship trust too, that means keeping consistent behaviour in all their relations with others especially citizens. They must also have party trust or inclined to what they do. In fact, these matter much more than nice-looking roads and buildings.”

“Zambians are not the humblest people in general although a good segment are. Humility means forgetting about ourselves and thinking about others, in this case citizens. But you know that most leaders only think of citizens when they’re campaigning. After winning, they don’t even go back to constituencies to thank them or continuously share love and belonging with them. We must compare ourselves with people in other countries. Go to Mauritius and observe behaviour of the ordinary people. They’re humbler than us and will hardly harm a fly. We harm our own people. Most Zambians cannot sleep peacefully at night. Yet, they have the police and the army and leadership. We like going to Church. We have built many churches. We have national prayers. But when we look in the mirror, the image does not portray what we preach. There is a completely different face of each one of us from that of Christ.”

“Zambians will not vote for you because you’re giving them free mealie meal and other things. They’ll vote for you when you empower them to grow and produce their own mealie meal. The dependence syndrome that is being created through giving party cadres free food and everything else in order for them to vote for your party is not helpful. They are old enough to know these tricks. They’ll eat and vote for someone else. On the other hand, leadership is not there to misuse public resources to make one part of Zambia happy while keeping the majority unhappy. The role of party cadres is misplaced because they belong to you because they’re hungry not because they love the party.”
“They’re breaking society and their families and will not last when your party one day loses leadership. You should be proud if you help them to stand on their own and prepare themselves for the future. They’re recklessly grabbing other people’s land and other resources because you’re protecting them today. But what will happen tomorrow when some other party takes over? You think those they stole from will leave them alone? By allowing anarchy, you’re creating a lawlessness society. You must campaign on correcting such bad practises instead of talking about infrastructure. It is the same with leaders. Today they steal public resources but one day people will remember when another party takes over. You will not have helped them by keeping quite when you were in charge.”

“Many thanks for today for your advice. I really appreciate. You see, sometimes we as leaders are only told what our advisers think we want to hear. They’re not as brave and honest as you are. Perhaps it is one thing too that we need to improve upon – to listen to different opinions without Zambians thinking that they’ll be punished if they speak their minds. I certainly look forward to hearing more on how we can improve our campaign and look better after every Zambian without thinking about which party they belong to. I look forward to our next dialogue on another topic.” My only reply to him was, “Remember, you think that infrastructure is a big issue on which your party can campaign. But what you consider as little things may in fact be the sparks that cause a conflagration. When building a house, you don’t ignore small bricks because if you do, a beautiful building may never rise.”

Video endorsing HH annoys PF

0

LUSAKA Province PF secretary Kennedy Kamba says even if foreigners endorse UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema they will not vote in next year’s general election.

On Independence Day, a video went viral where three white men wished Zambians a happy independence anniversary and ended with the words ‘Bally will fix it’, in apparent reference Hichilema’s newly acquired political brand name.

It is, however, not established whether the three men are Zambians or not.

Reacting to the video, Kamba warned members of the opposition party against banking on such support.

“We urge Zambians to question everything about the UPND. Who are those foreign nationals? What is their interest in Zambia and what is their relationship with the UPND? Who is sponsoring the UPND and what agenda do they have?” he asked yesterday. “Those seen in the circulating videos endorsing Hakainde Hichilema are rich men like him. What are their interests? This country is not for sale to the highest bidder! These are the people who are ready to strip Zambian!”

Kamba charged that the UPND was desperate to form government.

“This seems to have excited many dreamers in the UPND who have kept on saying even the Western world is in support of Hakainde Hichilema ahead of the 2021 general elections. This is laughable. The desperate attempts to gain recognition by the UPND and its leader Hakainde Hichilema is illogical and out of context,” Kamba said. “Those three or four foreign nationals filmed endorsing Hakainde Hichilema are not Zambians, they have nothing to do with Zambia and will not even vote in the 2021 general elections. One aspect that is certainly clear to us is that the UPND and its leader are desperate politicians who are ready to do anything. Given chance, they will sell this country to foreign nationals or foreign firms that they do business with.”

He said while the UPND was concerned about foreigners, PF was focused on the interests of Zambians.

Kamba said there was no need to have foreign nationals endorse local political candidates.

“Our focus will remain on the needs of our women and children in rural areas, to alleviate poverty and deliver the much-needed development. Zambia is safe under the PF,” said Kamba. “Yes, Zambia is a democracy but we don’t need foreign nationals to begin to meddle in our politics. We have political freedoms and right to deal with ourselves without any interference from anybody from outside. President Lungu is doing everything possible to drive the agenda of development while the UPND has gotten into a panic mode of now wanting international recognition forgetting that they are exposing their hidden agenda.”

WE’RE NOT READY TO HAND OVER POWER TO ANYONE… next year’s elections not easy, it’s a war, says Siliya

0

INFORMATION minister Dora Siliya has pleaded with traditional leaders to forgive the PF government and give it another chance in power.

Siliya says the PF are not ready to hand over power to anyone unless in 2026.

Speaking to about 300 village headmen and indunas at Mwala Hills on Sunday, Siliya said at times those in government go wrong but they need to be forgiven and prayed for.

She begged them to sensitise the people not to vote President Edgar Lungu out next year because it would disadvantage development in Eastern Province, which was in the pipeline.

She told them that if Easterners would not vote in numbers then President “Lungu will lose the way Rupiah [Banda] lost”.

She said people in Eastern Province should vote in numbers to overcome Southern Province.

“We shouldn’t relax that Edgar azawina (will win) since he is an Easterner but if we vote lazily, our friends in Southern Province will challenge us and we will be removed in power,” she said. “Let’s not vote lazily the way we did on Rupiah. We lost him because we are many but few voted and we lost him. Those eight bags of fertiliser we got under Rupiah disappeared because [Michael) Sata ate Cassava which doesn’t require fertiliser and you started calling us Paya Farmer and it’s now under President Edgar Lungu that agriculture has been revamped.”

Siliya observed that next year’s elections were not going to be easy one.

“These elections of next year are not an easy one. It’s war abale anga (my brothers and sisters)! It’s a war, we should make sure everyone registers as voters and vote on 12th August 2021 or else we will lose,” Siliya emphasised.

She expressed disappointment and worry that in 2016, in Sinda district, President Lungu got 7,000 votes while UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema got 5,000.

She said chances that others would vote for the opposition next year were high hence sensitisation needs to be taken seriously.

Siliya knelt down and begged for forgiveness for any wrong the government had committed.

She said the government knew that within five years, people have gone through many problems but she asked for a second chance for President Lungu to rule till 2026.

“Napapata (please), we go wrong, we in government, but forgive us please! Pray for us, we know we have gone through problems in these five years but let’s not lose this presidency because we still have a lot to do with it in our families, communities. We are not only happy for Edgar to be in State House but to work for us. If this presidency leaves, Eastern Province, nobody among us will be alive when it will be back here…Let’s not be lazy,” begged Siliya while on her knees.

She added that once PF is voted out, agriculture systems would not be revamped the way PF under President Lungu has done it.

“If Edgar Lungu loses next year, good agricultural system will collapse. So we have to put on much effort if Edgar is to win next year because we still have a lot to do,” Siliya said. “For now, we are not ready to hand over power to anyone unless in 2026 we are going to say ‘now namwe a Tonga mungatoleko ici cinthu but pakali pano usogoleri tikali nao nacocita (you Tongas can as well take over [the reigns] but for now we still have a lot to do with this leadership).”

She also took time to ask traditional leaders to pray for Bill 10 to succeed because it was where there were some laws that would benefit them since at the moment President Lungu had no law that supports him to render help to the traditional leaders and that what he does was out of his love for them.

“Pray for us to win Bill 10 on Thursday in Parliament. We know where we have stood and our friends in opposition they know where they have stood to reject it but all we require is for Bill 10 to pass,” Siliya said.

She claimed that a lot of chiefs including those in Southern Province were behind Bill 10.

Siliya, who is also Petauke Central PF member of parliament, advised traditional leaders to form cooperatives so that they benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme.

Meanwhile, headman Kavinde Felix Banda, who spoke for other traditional leaders, bemoaned negligence from the government towards their general welfare such as being denied access to farming inputs, and social cash transfer.

“Hon Minister, we are going to war but with empty stomachs, can we win the battle? We ask you to be kind with us because the war we are going to isn’t an easy one yet we want to help the government. We are just village headmen by name but practically we are nothing” lamented Banda amid applause and whistling from fellow traditional leaders.

EMMANUEL CHILEKWA :The Gods Are Against HH?

THE GODS ARE AGAINST HH?

“Is UPND a Surrogate of Western forces? As he auctioned the country already, Why does he love ba Mwisa over Zambians?”

Few days ago, when I saw a video of whites sending an indepence congratulatory message for Zambia’s leading opposition, Hakainde Hichilema, I wondered whether the gods never ever want Hakainde Hichilema to ever rule Zambia.

I asked myself – “How come HH sees nothing wrong in aligning himself with foreign forces for political support or promotion?”

The second question I asked us: “why does he give this propensity to be perceived as a foreign-supported surrogate of the Capitalists or imperialist forces?”

I asked myself a 3rd Question : “Has my country been auctioned already?”

With the above queries, the sovereign spirits of my late father, Warrant Officer Class 2 in the Northern Rhodesia army, overcame my weakness that I need to say something.

HH, seems aloof to the local feelings and emotions of Zambians. His political crusade is always missed even when victory is on his eyebrows, but he’s talented to blow it off just like that.

Hence the many opportunities he has attempted to go to Plot 1 he has squandered the opportumity.

He had a clear chance to succeed when late Michael Chilufya Sata got into a pact with him in 2009.

But HH believed he was bigger and better than Sata as he wanted Sata to be below him.

Sata, with immense political expertise, opted out of such a pact to go it alone and he wonthe 2011 elections.

Fate had it that that had HH agreed to “humble” himself, this time around, HH could have been in Plot 1 doing his 2nd Term, not striving to win.

Where’s the problem?

My young brother HH’s emotions and elated self-importance and elevated worth blinds him from being humble in order to attain the ultimate goal.

Now ECL, who was nowhere to Plot 1, who had only 28days to campaign in 2015 following death of Mr. Sata, is at the helm.

It’s wise to learn the ropes to greatness even from the foolish.

Five times failing to attain his goal, HH now faces a do or die uphill battle.

The PF is serious about the forthcoming Elections.

The change to the new voters roll, Bill 10 and Privatisation crusade are the 3 pronged spikes aimed at catching out HH, they plan 24/7.

Why? Several reasons at hand.

HH is perceived to be a surrogate of foreign forces.

Just recently we heard of the $400,000 East African deal with Dr Nevers Mumba being cited as having pocketed 90% of the same – it’s all in public domain.

Worst still, on this score is the mentioning of some rebel leader rendering support. I have not heard any statement partying away this assertion or claim, as serious as it is.

In the previous general election, we saw a swarm of EU gurus at HH’s house. As much as it was portrayed as diplomatic visit, we know that diplomats have their inert foreign agendas.

Now today, even when it’s clear that the PF has messed up big time, when then country is swinging between Green and Red, from the blues – boom, whites want HH to rule.

I dont know if the gods realy dont want HH or the man is set never to rule this country.

One thing all people agree to is that HH can make our economy tick, no doubt.

But one issue they all believe is that HH is a surrogate of the foreign forces and this video here just goes to show who wants HH much more than the Zambians.

And we know that the interests of these foreigners is not for Zambia or Africa, they still want to continue keeping us where we are in poverty.

The World Bank, the IMF and the Chinese all have one agenda – to impoverish Africans.

So, when a normal Zambian see such kind of whites promoting our very own Tonga Bull, chances are that they resolve to keep the status quo of the Chawama fellow in State House than bring on _ba mwisa_ at any cost.

Today, reports are surfacing on the deal between HH and the foreigners, much to the disgust of Zambian voters.

Now that some senior Members of the United Party for National Development (UPND), have castigated their leader, Hakainde Hichilema for allowing a video of white sponsors wishing him a happy Independence Anniversary.

Hichilema, who is under pressure from his sponsors to win the upcoming 2021 elections, allowed a video of people he has promised farm lands and mines, to appear in the video.

But some senior members of the party called this stunt as childish and dangerous for their image to voters.

They have urged Hichilema to tame his publicity team in Zambia and abroad.

They said the video exposes Hichilema’s links to individuals controlling UPND from South Africa.

_”We know he has promised them farmlands and the mines, but do we have to expose and show that?” They said._

_”It’s these foolish acts that make us lose elections everytime”, they lamented._

It is claimed that the UPND is sponsored by *Brenthurst Foundation*, a charity wing of the *Oppenheimer Family*.

Brenthurst Foundation have been sponsoring Hichilema to win since 2011, hoping that he could offer the mines to Anglo-America Corporation if he won the elections.

Brenthurst Foundation Executive Director, Greg Mills has set up a media team to prop up the purported soiled image of Hichilema abroad.

Mills usually pens articles against President Edgar Lungu and his government and publishes them in major newspapers in South Africa and London.

He also writes articles that white-washes Hichilema’s leadership potential.

The senior members have expressed anxieties fearing that Zambians may discover or suspect that the party has already sold the country.

Zambia is not South Africa where even pure white-driven campaign is acceptable. This video is undermining HH’s quest to Plot 1 as PF will maximise to use it during the 12 August 2021 general election as a person sponsored by foreigners to serve foreign interests.

Just my take.

Five PF Surrogate Little Political Parties Re-emphasize Their Support For A Carcass Bill 10

FIVE PF SURROGATE LITTLE POLITICAL PARTIES RE-EMPHASIZE THEIR SUPPORT FOR A CARCASS BILL 10

Five Little PF surrogate political parties without back bones led by a vision less Dr. Danny Pule yesterday held a briefing were it was resolved that all MPs should fully support the constitution amendment.

A voiceless consortium of opposition political parties have urged the general citizenry and members of parliament to fully support bill number 10 of 2019 as it is key to economical emancipation.

Dr. Danny Pule further said that delimitation can only be done if this bill 10 goes through

The five PF surrogate and voiceless political parties were;

Danny Pule
Chanda of NCP,
Writ Musoma of NRP,
Cosmo Mumba
Robert Mwanza of CDP.

QUESTIONS

Dr. Danny Pule, how will general citizenry support the Bill which is already in parliament and can only be supported by MPs by voting for it?

Dr. Danny Pule, which MPs are you referring to support bill 10 because your party and your fellow four political parties have no MPs in parliament and you have no citizenry support?
If you are implying on UPND MPs then you are a big joker.

Dr. Danny Pule, are you being truthful by stating that delimitation of constituencies can only be done by passing bill 10?
Was Muchinga Province and its constituencies created using Bill 10 or the already existing constitution?

What economic emancipation is bill 10 going to bring when the country is already struggling with highly accumulated near to default debts?

We expected Dr. Danny Pule being a man of God to stand on the upright platform to condemn this retrogressive Bill 10 aimed at making ECL be a life president through repealing Article 52 of 2016 in Bill 10.

We are now seeing a man of God webbed in seeking money through supporting a man that wants to rule the country with an iron fist.

Where is Dr.Danny Pule’s godliness by lying that delimitation of constituencies can only be done by passing Bill 10 when we have constituties that were created before Bill 10?

These one man show political parties are useless and are only supporting to feed their families and pay their bills from ECL’s pay out.

They are all PF surrogates that is the more reason why PF regime is abusing ZNBC by covering their briefings.

We urge all Independent MPs to stand on the right with UPND MPs and vote NO to bill 10 by walking out of parliament the moment this Bill will be presented on the floor on the 29th of October.

Zambian govt weak, paranoid –Prof Lumumba

0

KENYAN Professor of Law Patrick Lumumba says he will not respond to unfounded rumors that he and other foreigners are mobilizing funds to help the opposition unseat President Edgar Lungu because it’s a sign that the Zambian government is weak and paranoid.

Last week, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo said government was aware that some opposition leaders were soliciting funds from their collaborators who were asking them to cause lawlessness in the country.

A publication called Batoka Bulls claimed that MMD leader Never Mumba was in East Africa where he was sent to meet partners of the opposition coalition, among them Prof Lumumba, who gave him US$400,000 for joint activities.

But in an interview, Professor Lumumba said only a very weak government could be bothered by a foreign civilian.

“I have no response to unfounded rumours which are figments of the fertile imagination of idle conspiracy theorists. What message can I have to people who are paranoid and see enemies everywhere? They need prayers. What interest do I have in Zambia? I wish I had the power they claim I have over Zambian politics. It must be a very weak government that is bothered by a foreign civilian,” said Prof Lumumba.

Kampyongo had said an opposition leader was recently in East Africa to solicit for funds from people who were encouraging them to cause lawlessness in Zambia.

“I also want to say that government is aware of some schemes of political parties wanting to dare government and when government acts, they want to cry victims and claim that the democratic space is shrinking. We are equally aware that one political leader was recently in East Africa where he went to solicit for funds from their collaborators who have also encouraged them to engage in lawlessness activities. We are not going to allow people to trade off the sovereignty of this country or a piece of silver. We shall not sit and watch as foreign interests come and disturb the peace that this country has enjoyed,” warned Kampyongo.

“Government is equally aware of the schemes by a known political grouping to begin attacking the government procured equipment which includes motor vehicles for police service using all sorts of weaponry, gadgets, including explosives. The source of the explosives is already established and the culprits are also being monitored and very soon we expect the police to do the needful. But I want to say that the anti riot equipment and other modern equipment has been procured at a high cost and it is irresponsible and criminal for any individual or organisation to begin scheming to destroy the equipment.”- DIGGERS

EU, UK, US tell Mnangagwa to end abuses

0

On Sunday, Zanu PF supporters in collaboration with the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) conducted a foiled Anti-Sanctions march which was aimed at demanding “unconditional” lifting of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the Western governments.

But the governments responsible for the imposition of the targeted sanctions responded with rebuking Mnangagwa’s regime for human rights violations.

On Saturday the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Harare Melanie Robinson said Zimbabwe’s political leaders have brought economic ruin on the country through corruption and human rights abuses and rejected government claims that Western sanctions are to blame.

“What needs to be said: it’s not sanctions, it’s corruption that drives away investors and leaves teachers, doctors, nurses and services struggling.

“Sanctions don’t hurt ordinary citizens. Zimbabweans must be free to expose corruption, rights abuses and see perpetrators face justice,” Robinson said in a series of tweets.

In a statement on Twitter, the EU said reforms were needed in Zimbabwe to address issues of accountability.

“Did You Know? Investors make decisions based on risks. Reforms are needed in #Zimbabwe to address transparency & accountability, to fight corruption, to ensure the protection of investments & improve good governance; none of which are affected by EU restrictive measures.

“Did You Know? The EU restrictive measures have no impact on trade and the tariff and quota-free privileged access of goods from #Zimbabwe to the #EU market, granted by the Economic and Partnership Agreement (#EPA) ratified in 2012,” says EU.

US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols last week said the anti-sanctions events were designed to distract the people of Zimbabwe from the real causes of the problems in this country.

“I think if the government of Zimbabwe put the energy that they put into organising these types of events and generating statements from other SADC members into pursuing the reform agenda the better.

The government of Zimbabwe campaigned and talked about reform three years ago in November 2017 and 2018 at the inauguration of President Mnangagwa. If they have events on the reform agenda and the conditions, the restrictive measures that the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and others have imposed would be met.

“I think this is a hollow exercise in that it does not solve the interests of the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

The US added; “Zimbabwe falls short of its potential due to corruption and mismanagement by those in power and the government’s abuse of its own citizens, not targeted sanctions.” -Nehanda Radio

Young Zambian Female Aircraft Engineer Survives Male Domination In The Aviation Industry

YOUNG ZAMBIAN FEMALE AIRCRAFT ENGINEER SURVIVES MALE DOMINATION IN THE AVIATION INDUSTRY

The 25-year-old Proflight Zambia Aircraft maintenance engineer becomes one of the outstanding youngest female aircraft engineers in Zambia.

“In every situation, an engineer must first understand the machine to know the problem,” says Muutambwa Kasempa.

Muutambwa obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Aircraft Manufacturing and Maintenance from Shenyang Aerospace University in China where she studied from 2012-2016.

Durng an interview with Girl Empowerment Alliance for Change, she narates: “Aeroplanes are not designed by science, but by art in spite of some pretence and humbug to the contrary. I do not mean to suggest that engineering can do without science, on the contrary, it stands on scientific foundations, but there is a big gap between scientific research and the engineering product which has to be bridged by the art of the engineer.

My journey with Proflight Zambia started in December 2016 where I started as a trainee Engineer until I obtained my Basic Engineering license from the Civil Aviation authority. My inspiration as engineer came from my late brother Chibi George .L. Kasempa who challenged me to do engineering.. Initially, I wanted to be a commercial pilot and engineering was something I never saw myself doing but he asked me if woud mind learning how an aircraft is designed and how its components work? And that really inspired me and being in the aviation industry has taught me a lot from how an aircraft operates to how an entire airport operates.

Challenges I have faced so far are that Aviation is a male dominated industry. And most of the time, people think a female can’t do it, and a lot thinking I am too young and I dont I understand, but however, I like a good challenge and being underestimated only pushes me to work hard and prove that even women can be mechanics/engineering.

My future plans would be to work in an aircraft manufacturing company, hopefully Zambia will have one soon 🙂. My encouragment to other women and girls is: don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do this or you can’t understand that. Put your mind to it and set your goals; the road to greatness is never easy and even if you fail once or twice, it’s all part of the learning process.. don’t give up!

Lungu Should Appear Before Privatisation Commission Of Inquiry

0

STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday 27th October 2020.

LUNGU SHOULD APPEAR BEFORE COMMISSION OF INQUIRY

LUSAKA – AS United Party for National Development (UPND) youths we welcome the Privatisation Inquiry on condition that it is not targeted at any individual or indeed any group of individuals.

We believe there are some irregularities in the way some of our national assets were sold. We urge the Inquiry to rise above narrow political interests and conduct a fair inquiry.

It is for this reason that we are demanding that the Privatisation Commission of Inquiry Government intends to create investigates Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu over his role in the privatisation of the Lusaka plant of the Zambia Cold Storage Corporation Limited.

Mr Lungu was the chairman of the negotiating team for the privatisation of the company . Galaun Farms of Lusaka had offered a better deal worth K675 million cash for assets of Zambia Cold Storage excluding residential properties . Mr Edgar Lungu abandoned negotiations with Galaun and instead preferred to sell the company to Kembe Estates who had offered a paltry K338.8 million for all the assets including residential properties.

What motivated Mr Lungu to offer Zambia Cold Storage Company to Kembe Estates? Is it true that Mr Lungu was offered huge sums of money as negotiating chairman to influence the transaction?
The proposed commission of inquiry on privatisation of state owned companies should delve into this puzzle.

We cannot help but wonder why Mr Lungu settled for a deal that clearly disadvantaged the nation.

We can only speculate that he had personal interest in the deal and was probably offered a lot of money to ensure Kembe got the deal despite offering half what the highest bidder was offering

Mr Lungu’s dealings and friendship with Greek Cypriots Chris Spyron, an honourary Consul of Cyprus to Zambia then, and his brother the other director in Kembe Estate Limited needs to be investigated.
Mr Edgar Lungu needs to clear his name through the commission of inquiry.
Mr Lungu’s professional misconduct in this matter caused significant costs for Zambia Cold Storage Corporation operations.

We know that Galaun Farms got an injunction restraining the Zambia Privatisation Agency from selling to Kembe Estates alleging Mr Lungu was paid huge sums of money to offer the company to Kembe Estates.

This transaction could not be progressed as a result of Mr Lungu’s dealings.

We feel this case is a good candidate for Patriotic Front proposed tribunal on the privatisation process.

All this information is collaborated on page 126 of the Zambia Privatisation Agency Report.

Today, the entire country is reeling under unprecedented economic meltdown and a mountain of debt. This is because Mr Lungu has not changed. He is still the same greedy, selfish individual who opted to deprive the country of a very good deal in the sale of Cold Storage for a few pieces of silver.

We urge the Zambians to rise up in numbers next year and kick him out before our entire economy comes down to a grinding halt.

Kambwili Will Spend Another Night In Prison

Red tape prolongs Kambwili’s jail time

STRICTLY legally speaking, NDC president Chishimba Kambwili is a free man, thanks to bail granted to him by Lusaka Magistrates’ Court principal resident magistrate David Simusamba today.

One of Kambwili’s lawyers, State Counsel Musa Mwenye described the cash bail conditions as “harsh.”

The bail conditions are that Kambwili should pay K100, 000 and his two working sureties should pay a like amount each.

Notwithstanding Mwenye’s description, Kambwili’s agents (lawyers and family) raised the needed amount and met the bail conditions, before close of business today.
An euphoric crowd of the opposition leader’s supporters had gathered outside the correctional facility, certainly to raise his morale – once out.

Armed police lay in wait.

But not today; Kambwili remains incarcerated at Kamwala Remand Correctional Facility in Lusaka.

A judiciary official, who is not permitted to give media interviews, confided to Kalemba that magistrate Simusamba ‘could not be traced’ to sign final documentation for Kambwili’s release.

For now, Kambwili and those who regard him as dear continue counting the lengthy of his absence at home.

So far, the ex-information minister has spent 13 days and tonight will be his 13th night away from his classy Woodlands home in Lusaka, and even in Luanshya.

To end the way we started, legally speaking, there is no immediate glitch that will prevent Kambwili from walking (being driven) home tomorrow.

But we are merely lay men, and certainly women. So, we wait for experts at legal jargon to say what they usually say.

NDC president Chishimba Kambwili will spend another night at Kamwala Remand Prison despite Magistrate David Simusamba granting him bail earlier today.

The vocal opposition leader was to pay K100,000 as provide two working sureties who were also required to pay K100,000 each – a condition his lawyer Musa Mwenye described as “harsh”.

A source from within the NDC has also confirmed to #Kalemba that the bail conditions have been met.

“We have managed to pay for the sureties after Magistrate Simusamba “approved ” their authenticity,” the source said.

“A total of K300,000 has this been paid and we will take the deposit slips to court first thing in the morning,” source said adding; Under the circumstances , our president will yet again spend another night in Kamwala Remand Prison.”

LET’S CHANGE PLAYERS…ba minister ni ba kaponya, says KBF

0

IT’S impossible to be economically independent with some of the ministers we have today, niba kaponya, Lusaka lawyer and politician Kelvin Fube Bwalya has said.

Addressing the media after visiting jailed NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili at Kamwala remand prison, Bwalya popularly known by his initials KBF said half the politicians Zambia has today do not even understand the concept of money because it comes too easy and it is corrupt dosh (money).

He said many politicians today do not understand anything about the international markets and wondered how anyone would expect them to emancipate the general populace with their warped thinking.

“With the greatest respect, some of the ministers we have today niba kaponya. There are very few that I can say, yes that’s quality banono sana (very few), we need to change some players and change the game. I keep saying that and I mean it. Nangu ni bola kwaliba substitute noti fye ukushana fye (not just dancing around),” Bwalya said.

He said the current crop of leaders was only good at dancing at rallies, which was never the case in the initial MMD government under Frederick Chiluba.

“Mwakwatafye ukushana, ukushanafye (the only thing you are good at is dancing) for the sake of ukushana…tema politics ayo, no. Elo twalekonka ba (when we followed) Chiluba when MMD was coming up mukumfwa rally, we wanted to get the message, what’s the message, what’s the promise, what am I going to this rally for? Not to go and watch people dance!” he said.

Bwalya noted that there was a place and time for everything.

He said each time, according to the bible, had a season and there was a place for dancing and not at the political rally.

“A political rally means, let’s share ideas. There are some ministers who think the only time they call a rally is for musicians to dance and when you ask that ukomwaciya finshi balandileko ba minister, ati iyo twachilashana (when you ask what the minister said at the rally, you respond that there was nothing, we were just dancing) What’s that? You let the old women, the young fellas leave their daily chores to come and listen to a minister but they come there and there is nothing, all you have is empty promises! Iyo (No), there will be empowerment, what empowerment?” he asked.

Bwalya noted that the country has had presidential empowerment schemes from the time of Chiluba, Levy Mwanawasa and currently there was one with President Edgar Lungu but that all have been a fallacy.

“What is it doing? K1,600, is that empowerment? In my book, I have said the triple ‘M’ philosophy talks about mentorship; mentor the person’s mind, change his thinking before you introduce them to money. He must understand the value of education and information and then he must understand the value of the money you are giving him, then introduce him to the markets. Triple M, you can never do business if you don’t understand…I can give you a million dollars today but if your mind is damaged, the first thing you are going to buy is a motor vehicle and next thing is that you are going to get the most beautiful girl on the street, you will be spoiling that money. What kind of investment is that?” Bwalya wondered.

He insisted that youths could not develop without a proper mindset.

Magistrate Changa labels Kambwili’s lawyers disrespectful for not informing court withdrawal of their services

0

LUSAKA magistrate Nsunge Chanda says the failure by Chishimba Kambwili’s lawyers to inform her of their decision to withdraw their legal services to their client was disrespectful.

Magistrate Chanda said advocates are aware of the rules and etiquette of the legal profession that they ought to follow in representing their clients.

This is in a matter where Kambwili is facing a charge of contempt of court for allegedly tampering with evidence in relation to Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services Limited at Patents and Companies Registration Agency, which was a subject in an active case before principal resident magistrate David Simusamba.

On October 2, 2020, Joseph Akafumba of MAK partners informed the court that Kambwili’s lawyers, Keith Mweemba, Gilbert Phiri and Christopher Mundia, had withdrawn their legal services during the late hours of October 1,2020.

Akafumba sought an adjournment in order to go through the case record and study the matter.

When the matter came up for cross examination of Kambwili’s arresting officer Stanley Mumbula, David Banda of MAK Partners submitted that at the last sitting, the defense made an application to access the court record but court guided that it could not be accessed as the matter is still active.

“We were guided to engage counsel who had conduct of the case but the notes from other law firms were not availed to us. We engaged counsel in conduct of the matter to continue with the matter and they are agreeable but they are not before court because of other engagements,” said Banda. “We beseech the discretion of the court to adjourn the matter to tomorrow, the matter was given two days, we pray that the application for an adjournment be granted to enable the accused defend his case through counsel who has had conduct of the matter.”

State advocate Mukuma Chipawa did not object to the application by the defense but expressed concern that the matter had delayed due to several adjournments sought by defense.

He asked the court to take judicial notice in the event that trial does not proceed.

In her ruling, magistrate Chanda said advocates were privy to the ethics on how to represent an accused.

“I had no documents from the previous counsel indicating that they have withdrawn from the case, I am hearing it from you, this shows that they lack respect for the court. During training there are ethics that lawyers should observe. This court is not driven by lawyers, it drives itself,” said magistrate Chanda. “I will reserve my ruling for tomorrow and wait for the lawyers.”

Five Opposition Parties Support bill 10 and Dr Pule calls on MPS to fully support the constitution amendment

0

A consortium of opposition political parties have urged the general citizenry and members of parliament to fully support the constitution amendment bill number 10 of 2019 as it is key to economic emancipation.

Christian Democratic Party President Danny Pule said the five opposition parties have come together with a common agenda of educating people on bill 10 and advocating for its enactment.

ZANIS Reports that Dr Pule made the remarks during the press briefing in Lusaka that was attended by four other political parties.

Dr Pule underscored that bill 10 once enacted will represent the views of all Zambians and will also be a catalyst for economic growth.

“As the Christian Democratic Party with all the countrywide structures we are in full support of bill 10 and other politicians should embrace it as it means well for the country. Once enacted it will lead to the delimitation of constituencies as the current 156 are not enough with the population growth that we have had. Without bill 10 there is no way the constitution can be amended,” charged the opposition leader.

Dr Pule emphasized that bill 10 has numerous benefits such as delimitation of constituencies that will see an increase from the current 156 and economic growth due to adequate representation by members of parliament.

Others who spoke at the press briefing included National Congress Party (NCP) Peter Chanda who called on the general citizenry to respect the Zambia police service.

Mr Chanda recalled that the recent happenings of police abduction and slapping in the full view of public should be condemned in strongest terms by all well-meaning Zambians.

The NCP Leader called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to impose punitive measures on the people who break the law by disregarding constitution offices.

“No one should break the law with impunity and the Minister of Home Affairs should punish such people because we all have the duty of respect the police service. As politicians whether in the ruling or opposition we all have the duty to spur economic growth and not advocate for violence and name calling,” said Mr Chanda.

Meanwhile, Zambia Republican Party’s Writ Musoma, National Revolution Party’s Cosmo Mumba and Citizens Democratic Party’s Robert Mwanza all echoed the support to bill 10 and respect for the rule of law.

The constitution amendment bill number 10 of 2019 will be restored to the order paper of the national assembly on Thursday October 29, 2020.

Burton Ng’oma: the unsung independence struggle hero

HISTORY is usually unfair to ordinary men and women, attributing too much importance to outstanding figures, and giving them too much merit. It practically ignores the ordinary men and women who made possible the circumstances that exalted one person over others, making them important in national and world public opinion.

As we commemorate the 56th anniversary of our country’s independence we should pay special tribute to the ordinary men and women who suffered and struggled without respite for our freedom.

Rather than being forgotten with the passing of the years, their names, their exemplary lives, their unselfishness, their heroism, should be remembered by all of us. We should see them live again. Above all, they should remain alive in our consciousness and in our hearts.

On days such as this we should remember all those who gave their lives for our country’s independence.

Today my attention turns to an unsung hero of the independence struggle, Burton Ng’oma Chisashi.

Burton was born on May 5, 1913, at Mundu village in Chinsali. He started school at Mundu in 1925, a school which opened in 1910 with standards one to four. He managed to get his early education there and was later selected to go to Lubwa Mission, which offered standards five and six.

He used to travel as a weekly boarder from his village, Mundu, which was 39.5 kilometres from Lubwa Mission, a distance he used to walk every Friday back home, and every Sunday back to school from 04:00hrs to 15:45hrs.

Burton was a very intelligent student. Noticing this, a British school principal, Dr Brown, requested him to get his parents to accompany him to school one day.

When Burton delivered the message, the information was not well received by his parents, who suspected he had committed a serious offence at school. His father beat him before he even met the principal to hear why he was summoned.

He continued to beat his son throughout the journey to meet the principal, to try to force a confession from him about what he had done. This didn’t get him anywhere because even Burton didn’t know why his parents were summoned.

When they reached Lubwa Mission, Dr Brown was surprised to see Burton’s body showing marks of the severe beatings and his eyes swollen due to crying.

He asked why the boy had been beaten, and the father said he suspected his son had committed an offence at school, and that was the reason he had been summoned.

The principal explained that it was not an offence he had committed, instead he had discovered that the boy was very intelligent and wanted to ask for permission from his parents to allow him to relocate to his home so he could stay with him.

The principal explained that because of the intelligence and good behaviour he had seen in the boy, he wanted him to move from the boarding house he was staying in with his friends. He offered to pay all school fees and provide every support until he finished his education.

His father happily agreed, but before leaving he warned the principal not to steal his son, threatening that the whole of Mundu village would walk to Lubwa Mission and kill the principal if anything bad happened to him. Dr Brown was further warned that the entire Mundu village would travel to UK and destroy the area Dr Brown came from if young Burton was harmed in any way. Happily, Burton lived with Dr Brown until he finished his standard six.

The principal had a typewriter in his home and Burton used to play with it, eventually mastering typing skills. He developed an interest in typing because he used to see Dr Brown typing documents for the mission every evening and at weekends.

In 1935, Burton was the only student from 300 Bemba colleagues who managed to qualify to go on to standard six from those who sat the exams in the whole region now called Muchinga Province. In Namwanga 190 students sat the exams and six passed. In Tumbuka 145 students passed, and no one passed from 115 students in Mambwe.

Burton continued with his education in standard six and had a busy time helping to translate information from English to Icibemba language, working with the Rev Paul Mushindo, a prominent preacher, who was also a specialist in Icibemba.

Burton became a devout Christian in the Church of Free Church of Scotland, now known as The United Church of Zambia.

While at the mission, he admired a girl by the name of Mercy Mukuka Tembwe, whom he later married. She was the daughter of Lucy Bwalya Chimutukule, a maid who was working at the home of the Rev David Kaunda. Unfortunately, her mother died at the hands of criminals in Kampemba village in 1981 at the age of 92 and her body was never found. Villagers searched for her and found only a walking stick at the junction of Muganda farms and Mundu road, from where she was taken.

In the years 1937, 1939, and 1941, God blessed Burton and his wife Mercy with three sons; Wallace Chilufya Wafita, Chilufya Wakashika and Daniel Chewe. Two of them have since died with Wallace the only survivor.

In 1943, Burton went to East Africa Tanzania with his wife Mercy to hide from the colonial rulers who wanted to kill him because of his involvement in the independence struggle.

There he worked for Tanzania Railways and was elevated to the position of foreman, eventually reaching the position of station manager. He worked in the towns of Dodoma, Dar-es-Salam, Itigi, Kigoma, and Mbeya, from 1945 to 1959.

Along the way he managed to acquire two shotguns, a rifle and a motor vehicle called Bedford.

He retired in 1959 and returned to Mundu village, Chinsali, where he opened a grocery store in 1961.

He re-joined politics, and during the Cha Cha Cha period, he provided leadership for the mobilisation of the freedom fighters in Chinsali area using his own resources. His home was a sanctuary for all those who fought for independence.

During the period 1961 to 1963, members of UNIP asked him to help them with his car and his driver Mackson Chilakuka, to be used in the independence struggle. He willingly offered the vehicle to the party, as well as the driver, who continued to draw a salary from Burton. He also provided fuel.

Burton fought a lot, being the only person in the area who had two guns at that time. He used them during Cha Cha Cha in areas where there was serious fighting; in Kamimbi, Musanya, Ilondola, Kambyoshi and Mwalule villages. He was a freedom fighter who was very brave and put his country first before anything. He risked his life in the quest to gain freedom from the hands of the colonial rulers and was fearless, the epitome of a great leadership. He was such an enormous figure in this country in his own right, he gained recognition from many people.

It was as a result of his generosity towards freedom fighters that he was arrested. He was suspected to be providing the fuel that was used to burn bridges in the area simply because he was the only person who owned a vehicle.

On a memorable day in July 1961 the white district commissioner Mr Hanar and mobile police, as they used to call them, visited the village at around 10:00 hours and found Burton. They beat him in full view of his two sons – Chilufya and Chewe – and burnt his shop.

Upon hearing that the police had beaten Burton, his nephews, Andala Munwe, Nashon Shimulunda and Lameck Shauli, rushed to try to rescue him and were equally and brutally beaten.

After Burton lost conscious, they threw him in their vehicle together with his son and nephews and took them to Chinsali remand prison cells. Burton was straight away taken to Lubwa Mission Hospital where he was admitted and remained unconscious for a month. Luckly, he was attended to by a Scottish doctor, Dr Wilson, who was from the clan of Dr David Livingstone. Wilson said he would not rest until he saved Burton because he had been working with the missionaries to spread the gospel. Dr Wilson worked tirelessly to give Burton the best treatment possible, and he eventually regained consciousness.

Dr Wilson supported the blacks’ struggle for their freedom. He was one of the Scottish missionaries who preached in favour of the liberation of Africans at the time. He encouraged the blacks to fight for their freedom and taught them to be fearless in the struggle. He left for Scotland immediately after curing Burton, saying he could no longer live with the bloodshed.

Burton was remanded at Milima prison for three years with two colleagues; Shichinda Ifitayi, and Chisashi. After that they were taken to Mukobeko maximum prison in Kabwe, where they were meant to be sentenced to death. They stayed at Mukobeko prison for four days.

When word went round that Burton had been badily beaten, other colleagues, who were also targeted to be arrested, ran away in the bush. These included Broughtwell Kalulu, who married Burton’s niece. He was a wanted man but, luckily, when the police arrived he was ploughing in the bush.

Upon hearing what had happened, he ran away rather than returning home for fear of being arrested. He continued to fight for the liberation while in the bush, however, resulting in the villagers calling him as ba Fyanifyani.

The police searched for Broughtwell everywhere in the Musanya, Mundu, Chipanga and Chinsali areas. He narrowly escaped death when they finally tracked him down to Musanya village. They attacked his small thatched shelter and burnt it, only to discover that he was not there, having been tipped off by a teacher, Mr Levison.

While at Mukobeko, Burton used to sing his favourite UCZ hymn, No 234, Lesa ekachema wandi, meaning God is my shepherd I will not fear, to strengthen himself while on remand. On the third day, which was the day before they were to be sentenced, they sung the whole night. The following morning, one of them, Shichinda Ifitai, decided to commit suicide using his belt, and died in the cell rather than waiting for the judgement and sentence the following day. It was from this experience that from that time on the authorities ensured they collected belts from inmates as soon as they were detained.

The following night, the prison experienced its first load shedding, which scared the white prison warders. When this was reported to the judges, they concluded that the prisoners were innocent and that this was why they had experienced the load shedding, after one of them had committed suicide. They considered it to be a signal that they should not go ahead with sentencing the remaining two, in case it resulted in something worse.

It was as a result of this that Burton and Chisashi were acquitted and set free after denying the charges against them. They were the first prisoners at that time to be set free from Mukobeko maximum prison.

After his release, Burton continued to help the struggle until Zambia gained independence. After independence, he worked as a ward councillor in Chipanga in Chinsali constituency, and at one time worked under Dr Waza Kaunda, who was a member of parliament for Chinsali.

It was during this period that he was visited by a grandson of Dr Brown’s, Mr. Ipenberg, a history teacher in Netherlands, who travelled to gather information about his grandfather. He wanted to find out where Chinsali was, and specifically, Lubwa Mission, where his grandfather was a principal. When he reached the mission he was quick to ask where he could find Burton N’goma and was directed to Watson Mpanduka, Burton’s nephew.

Watson tried to talk him out of going to Mundu village by telling him that Burton had grown very old and could neither remember anything nor speak. Despite being told this, Mr Ipenberg insisted it would defeat the purpose of his travelling to Zambia if he could not see Burton, even in his old age. He explained that he was writing a book about his grandfather.

When they reached Mundu village, Mr Ipenberg refused to wait for Burton to return from working in the fields, following him on foot instead. When they reached the farm, Mr Ipenberg spotted Burton right away, without even having him pointed out, and spent nine hours interviewing him about how he lived with Dr Brown.

Burton also worked under the then governor of Chinsali, Daniel Mukosa, following a vacancy after the untimely death of Kenneth Mulenga Nongo, who collapsed and died while addressing a political meeting. The death scared the people of Chinsali with people reluctant to apply for the job.

President Kaunda decided that his son, Dr Waza Kaunda, be “sacrificed” and stand as member of parliament amid allegations of witchcraft. As a result he started mobilising the party in the area with Burton.

Burton died on May 13, 1991, and was buried in his village, Mundu. Having come from a loyal family he was buried at a location far away from his village, as per tradition.

Burton died with scars on his body, which he treasured. He showed them to his grandchildren as a mark of his struggle and triumph against the colonial oppressors. He used to boast that the scars from the beatings he and his fellow freedom fighters suffered at the hands of the whites while in jail, were indelible marks of the love for Zambia he showed during the Welensky rule.

Eternal glory to men and women like Burton and his comrades!

50 Cent Denounces Donald Trump: ‘I Never Liked Him’

0

50 Cent is changing his tune.

Just days after publicly endorsing Donald Trump, the rap mogul is distancing himself from the President, claiming he “never liked him.” On Saturday, 50 shared a clip from his ex-girlfriend Chelsea Handler’s appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where she discussed 50’s support for Trump.

“So he doesn’t want to pay 62 percent in taxes because he doesn’t want to go from 50 Cent to 20 Cent and I had to remind him that he was a Black person, so he can’t vote for Donald Trump and that he shouldn’t be influencing an entire swath of people who may listen to him because he’s worried about his own personal pocketbook,” Handler told Fallon.

50 responded to Handler by denouncing Trump. “👀a what, 😳another spin 💫F**k Donald Trump, i never liked him,” he wrote. “for all i know he had me set up and had my friend Angel Fernandez killed but that’s history.LOL.”

On Monday, 50 endorsed Trump by sharing a graphic of Joe Biden’s proposed tax plan, which would raise taxes for New York’s top earners. “WHAT THE F**K! (VOTE ForTRUMP) IM OUT, F**K NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway,” he wrote. “I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people 62% are you out of ya fu**ing mind.”

Following his comments, Handler called out her ex, who she briefly dated in 2010 after he was a guest on her E! talk show “Chelsea Lately.” “You used to be my favorite ex-boyfriend,” she tweeted.

The comedian also offered to pay 50’s taxes if he reconsidered his support for Trump. “Hey fu**er! I will pay your taxes in exchange for you coming to your senses. Happily!” she tweeted. “Black lives matter. That’s you, fu**er! Remember?”

“Oh my God this is effecting my love life now,” 50 replied. “@chelseahandler I love ya Gator, don’t let Trump and Joe Biden come between us girl.”

During her “Tonight Show” interview, Handler also made an offer to 50 if he decided to denounce Trump. “I am willing to seal the deal in more ways than one if he changes his mind and publicly denounces Donald Trump,” she said. “I might be willing to go for another spin, if you know what I’m talking about.”

It’s No Longer A Secret: S3x Has Become Zambias Source Of Empowerment, Job To Youths

0

BY SHAMOBA

In the early 2019 and up to date, youths in Zambia no longer abort children or use condoms. In my statistics I have discovered that women or girls have now fallen into a belief that if you find a man who is working, dispute been in government or private company you must end up in marriage.

Parents have also contributed by pushing women into force marriages because of man’s status #employed that’s the level of compound belief (misis, george, jack, chawama, kalingalinga, matero, mtendere, kalikiliki, etc). some young boys are busy making fake relationships all in the need of free s3x, and girls accept because of domestic needs.

When it comes to the rich families kumayadi , the have there on belief too, but as youths we all meet at s3x levels. Try to look deep here; we no longer have s3x workers in Zambia because everyone now has become a s3x machine, old men who have money now are using small girls running away from their houses, just because they know they are not employed , they know there weakness its money.

Government and privet employed people , are also moving up and down to look for a tight virginas, and energy in small boys and girls, no wander we have s3x scandals all time in Zambia of big people.

Youths now can’t maintain relationships everyone is moving up and down, from one man to another, same to women and Some pretend to have one pattern but sleeping with many including oldies #sugardadies.

Nowadays people found in nightclubs are from 1975 – 2003 dancing and singing wawawa from their s3x, abuse of alcohol, vandalism.
I call upon the government to please help us with serious youth empowerment for the job we are doing here, your vision to finish Hiv/Aids by 2030 will now be for filed. We have the skills and talent, but we lack resource, for example simple loans for those in business like me, and you can come up with LCC, stay safe campaign were we can take other youths, correcting garbage’s in our nation.

Let us who are not educated also have chance to join national wings (police and army) without politics applied because we are Zambians and victims who don’t even follow family planning.

Honestly we are tired to be forced to marry or getting married when we are not working, please come to our aid we need youth empowerment. On behalf of woman we are also tired of opening legs to get a k20, just to buy lotion and pads.

Chanda Na Kay have the right to deal with PF – respect their right!

By Mwaba Mutale

AMONG the topics I have decided to kill on this wall is politics because it is major divisive factor and I won’t be an object of causing division and confusion in this nation.

But let me share a thought. Many are attacking the popular rapping duo of the “Chanda na Kay” fame for choosing to align with the Patriot Front.

Well, it is their democratic right. You too can align with Narep or UPND or NDC. Somebody does not become less of a human or an idiot just because they do not support your cause.

We must bring ourselves where we are able to live as brothers and sisters, unity in diversity.

If you have seen any bad in the ruling PF, your friends haven’t seen that bad. You can either go pitch your idea and try to convince them to join you or show how the side their supporting is inadequate.

I have seen a terrible trend, both the ruling and opposition parties were anyone who is not with you is treated like an imbecile and less of a human and like a fool or they dont think. No bane!

Democracy is allowing ideas to flourish, even those ideas you dont like. So you cant say Chanda na Kay are fools because they have decided to support PF, there is no way will that thinking ever be accepted. Besides, these are artists who earn their living from performances.

They could just have been hired and paid for a song and totally nothing wrong with that comrades.

We have artists aligned to the opposition too, they too are not to be considered foolish because they choose to be opposition.

We must bring ourselves to a position of respect for everyone and begin to respect divergent views. Everyone human including those you dont agree with deserve respect…

The only consequence is that people are not aligned to the PF may now shun their shows or wont invite them to perform.

In short they may have shot themselves in the foot with this move… whatever the case they are adults and have the right of Association. That’s all we saying.

They have every democratic right, even if we may not agree with their choice and decision the least we can do is respect it. Whether to buy their music or attend their shows is now thats what’s up to you…

IT’S UNFORTUNATE KAMBWILI IS INCARCERATED TODAY, SAYS GBM

0

By Patson Chilemba

It’s unfortunate that Chishimba Kambwili is incarcerated today, says ruling PF vice-chairperson for mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM).

And GBM said President Edgar Lungu has sent PF secretary general Davies Mwila to the Copperbelt to ensure harmony between the main party structures and the mobilisation committee.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, GBM bemoaned the incarceration of Kambwili, but that the matter had nothing to do with President Edgar Lungu and the ruling party. GBM was asked how he felt as a political leader that one of the opposition leaders in the country was incarcerated during the time the country was commemorating 56 years of independence.

“It’s quite unfortunate but I think on a later day you must ask me specifically on honourable Chishimba Kambwili then I will be able to express my feelings about honourable Kambwili. But for now I can just say that it is unfortunate that one of us is incarcerated today of course not something of the party’s intention or the President’s intention, but something which is beyond everyone’s control,” GBM said. “Because it’s a matter which I think he was involved in had nothing to do with anyone of us in the party. But it’s something to do with the law, the laws of Zambia. But I think I can probably say some other time ask me about my young brother Kambwili and I will be able to share with you what I feel about brother Kambwili.”

GBM, who said he was heading for the Copperbelt when contacted for the interview, said Mwila was chairing a meeting in the province to ensure that party structures and the mobilisation pull together in one direction.

“It’s just some people may not understand the role of the mobilisation committee, that’s why the party secretary general, of course the President saw it prudent that he directs the party secretary general to give guidelines on how the main party structures and the mobilisation should work in harmony,” GBM said. “It’s doesn’t mean that there is any form of misunderstanding, no, no we are working together. We just need our roles to be defined yes that’s the purpose of that meeting.”

However, the sources have revealed that the continued infighting involving Copperbelt Province mobilisation committee chairperson and Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo and the Nathan Chanda led provincial leadership is at the heart of the meeting being chaired by Mwila.

The sources have told Daily Revelation that those in the main leadership structures feel they have been supplanted from their positions by those who are in the mobilisation committee, and that the two camps are positioning themselves for hegemony over the leadership for the province. The sources have also said that those aligned to the two groups are also in a fight over the adoptions of members of parliament, and that the fight has pitted the true greens (original members of the party) and the new comers like Lusambo and Foreign Affairs minister Joe Malanji.

There have been long standing fights between the two camps, which once led to a near punch-up involving Chanda’s supporters and Lusambo during a fundraising dinner dance on the Copperbelt, in the presence of Mwila. Lusambo elicited anger in Chanda’s supporters who threatened to manhandle him after he said that the party was dead on the Copperbelt because of poor leadership.

And GBM said the PF was ready for next year’s general elections.

“Some people may be saying that no there is some wind of change. I haven’t seen it because when I was in PF (in 2011) I saw wind of change when we were taking over from MMD. But that is not there today I can’t see any wind of change. I am sure am not the only one who can say that or attest to that there is no significance that there is wind of change in 2021,” said GBM. “All I can say is that people must continue supporting the leadership of President Lungu and the PF. I think they mean well they have done quite a lot for this country. Things that were not done after independence today most of the things have been done…27 years ago there was nothing to point at.”-Daily Revelation

Kaizar Zulu asks court to dismiss Lyndhurst School driver’s K4.5m damages claim

0

FORMER Special assistant to the president for political affairs Kaizer Zulu has asked the Lusaka High Court to dismiss the matter where a driver of Lyndhurst School Joe Tembo has sued him demanding K3,054,000 as damages for assault for being irregular.

He argued that the K2,500,000 as compensation for pain being sought by Tembo is irregular as it offends the rules of court governing settling of pleadings.

Zulu had assaulted Tembo in November 2019 after their vehicles collided in Lusaka’s Ibex hill while he was picking up school children.

Tembo is demanding K554,000 as special damages, and K2,500,000 as compensation for pain.

He is also seeking damages for torture, anguish and embarrassment resulting from the assault and battery caused by Zulu and interest on all sums, costs and any other reliefs that the court might deem fit.

In his statement of claim, Tembo said that on November 19, 2019 whilst he was driving a Toyota Hiace bus picking up school children in Ibex Hill, Zulu’s vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, rammed into the bus he was driving and later ended up into a drainage on Twin Palm road.

He said that on his way to second street in Ibex Hill, he was about to turn into Avic road and did indicate to motorists who were following him that he was about to turn and waited for an oncoming vehicle to pass.

“When the oncoming vehicle drove past the plaintiff’s bus, the plaintiff started turning into Avic Road and whilst turning, he heard a loud bang on the bus he was driving and he saw a Toyota Land Cruiser which hit the bus in the drainage along Twin Palm road,” Tembo said.

The victim narrated that when he got off the vehicle to check if everyone was okay, he saw Zulu, who was seated in the drivers seat and on a phone call, raise his thumb signaling him that he was okay.

Tembo said that 20 minutes later, he saw two motor vehicles which were occupied by huge men, who arrived at the accident scene and Zulu came out of his vehicle.

He said Zulu asked the onlookers at the scene who the driver of the bus was and when Tembo told him that he was the driver of the school bus, Zulu brandished a gun and pointed it at him and ordered his allies who arrived at the scene to beat him up on the premise that he wanted to cause his (Zulu) death.

Tembo said that Zulu ordered the thugs to rough him up and clobber him.
He said some military personnel arrived at the scene and questioned why he (Tembo) was being lynched but Zulu showed them their ID and they drove away.

The driver stated that the cadres continued beating him up and Zulu kicked him on the chin and he bled from his nose and mouth after which he collapsed and became unconscious and was only awaken by a doctor at University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

However, Zulu in his skeleton arguments in support of summons to set aside writ of summons and statement of claim for irregularity, stated that the alleged cause of action emanates from the claim of tortuous liability (compensation for injury) which was not contractual to trigger monetary compensation.

Zulu said a fixed sum must be certain when pleaded and Tembo had listed fixed amounts for compensation for pain, which clearly offends the rules of settling pleadings.

He wondered how Tenbo arrived at K2,500,000 as compensation for pain when the same could not be ascertained as a mere matter of arithmetic.

Zulu said that the claim falls short of the rules on settling pleadings and should be set aside for irregularity.

“The plaintiff cannot claim for liquidated sums for compensation for alleged pain as suffered as a result of a tortious claim. The pleadings herein clearly offends the rules of settling pleadings therefore the writ of summons and statement of claim ought to be set aside for irregularity,” said Zulu. “The defendant is equally praying for costs incidental to the application herein and the same to be paid before the plaintiff takes any further steps to remedy his grave error.”

And in a related matter where Zulu, Mpange Kachingwe, Raffiq Rashid, Bella Mwanza, Chita Lodge limited and the attorney general have been sued by four Lusaka residents Bernard Nshindo, Sengelewayo Jere, Saul Masikoti and Mason Mweemba for kidnapping and assault, the plaintiffs say they will prove their claims against Zulu and his allies.

In the reply to the defendants’ defence, the quartet said they would demonstrate that Zulu and his co-defendants do not have a defense on merit whatsoever./SM

ECZ Committed to Ensure Diaspora Voting is Actualized in 2026

ECZ Committed to Ensure Diaspora Voting is Actualized in 2026

LONDON, Sunday, 25th October 2020- Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano says the Commission is working towards actualizing diaspora voting ahead of the 2026 general elections.

And Mr. Nshindano has implored Zambians living abroad to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise and travel to Zambia so that they can register as voters in the 2021 elections, stating that in its current form, the electoral Act does not allow Zambians living in the Diaspora to vote from their respective jurisdictions.

Mr. Nshindano said this when he addressed Zambians in the Diaspora during a virtual Town Hall meeting organised by ‘Zambians Together’ in partnership with the Zambian High Commission in London. The theme of the virtual meeting was “understanding Diaspora’s right to vote in Zambian elections.”

“The Constitution in its current state does not bar any Zambians from participating in any election. Any Zambian, who holds a green National Registration Card who is 18 years and above is eligible to participate in elections. Citizens in the Diaspora have the right to be able to exercise their vote but not in their respective Jurisdictions because there are certain impediments in the current form. Under the electoral process Act, the current regulations spell out that, firstly, for one to be able to vote, you need to present yourself before a registration officer, so that entails that one has to be physically there,” he said.

Mr. Nshindano said the Commission is committed to ensuring that Diaspora voting is actualized as the move would facilitate for upholding of human rights as enshrined in the Constitution, adding that the Commission has since started amending some guidelines to realign the electoral process with the Constitution.

Mr. Nshindano said the Commission is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate for Diaspora voting, stating that there was need to gather statistics to understand the population in the constituencies that the Commission has in the Diaspora.

He added that ECZ will also have to set up and gazette polling stations and the best jurisdictions would have to be Zambian Missions Abroad. “For us to do all this, the Missions Abroad will have to be included in the delimitation exercise so that they are electoral binding. There are also other administrative aspects that could also speak to legislative process within the regulations; different time zones need to be taken into consideration. I hope that parliament will be supportive of this course. It is critical also to note is that one of the key challenges we face as a Commission is stakeholders buying the issue of voting and in the Diaspora”.

Mr. Nshindano reaffirmed that Diaspora voting was not new to the Commission, stating that despite ECZ attempting to implement it in the previous elections, political parties has always expressed misgivings perceiving the move as a conduit to electoral fraud.

He has since appealed to all stakeholders to come on board and support the Commission in its quest to make electoral reforms.

“If you have been following, the moment it was announced that the Commission was considering both prison and Diaspora voting, there was a lot of push back on the part of the political parties with regards to that, indicating that is one avenue that the Commission and indeed the country would use for electoral malpractice. So, this is where now the voices of citizens in the Diaspora also becomes important for you to see that this is actualized, but also needs the stakeholders to be convinced that this is an important aspect”.

And Zambian’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom His Excellency Lt. Gen. Paul Mihova assured Zambians in the UK that the Mission will continue to facilitate dialogue between the Government and the Diaspora on key issues and thanked Mr. Nshindano for taking time to meet Zambians based in the UK virtually.

Meanwhile, giving a Vote of thanks, Zambians Together Policy and Advocacy Director Chibwe Henry said the Diaspora now understand that the mechanisms, and hopefully, the legislation, to permit Diaspora, who are dispersed around the globe, to participation in the elections, will be in place by 2026.

“We have had an extremely useful and informative evening today because we have learnt a great deal about the Zambian Diaspora’s Right to Vote in General Elections, which Mr. Nshindano has explained. So, for 2021, as Zambian Diaspora, we just need to make sure we present ourselves before the Registration Officer in Zambia.” She said.

Ms. Henry said Zambians Together, with support from the Zambia High Commission, is trying to look forward, to better understand the Government’s mechanisms for implementing the Diaspora Policy; a process that will be achieved through institutions like the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

“We will therefore be conducting a Diaspora-led collaborative in-depth review of the Policy, an exercise we believe is vital as 2026 is the same year in which the Diaspora Policy is set to be reviewed. We are highly indebted to both of these Government Institutions for supporting Zambians Together’s efforts to bridge the gap between the decision makers and the Diaspora community,” she said.

Police Summons And Arrest Is A New Recruitment By PF Which Most Citizens Will Undergo – Trevor Mwiinde

POLICE SUMMONS AND ARREST IS A NEW RECRUITMENT BY PF WHICH MOST CITIZENS WILL UNDERGO – TREVOR MWIINDE

As different sectors of society continue condemning the code of conduct and brutality police officers are imposing on citizens, UPND officials have equally not been left out to express their disappointment of unnecessary summoning and intimidation of their member.

Speaking through a panel of interaction on Muvi TV’s Morning Breakfast Show, the UPND National Youth Secretary Trevor Mwiinde has expressed concern over police victimization of citizens who pay their salaries as he challenges citizens to be ready for summons and arrests as it is a recruitment that most of them will undergo to help in funding the PF national budget deficit and deficiency. Mwiinde further bemoaned the pathetic attitude of police officers who forget that they are constitutionally mandated to protect citizens and their property and not advancing a few individual’s agendas to settle political scores especially with UPND members or sympathizers.

Mwiinde has charged that there is a collapse of the rule of law as police officers are a curtail of PF cadres getting instructions from President Lungu who is usually likened to a Mafia who pretends not to be there and yet he is too much aware of all these arrests and irregular detentions. He pretends as though all is well. He further stated that most of political arrests President Lungu is usually out of country or state house as he is busy sampling his popularity around Zambia for a third term. Zambians must not allow this to happen as other legal minds in likes of Sangwa came out openly to say that the petition or rather injunction is already on his laptop to block Lungu from standing in 2021 general elections.

Having said this, Mwiinde affirmed that President Lungu is the controller of everything happening whose agenda is to distract UPND from concentrating on urgent things meant to develop Zambia. Evident is the canceling of President Hakainde Hichilema’s summon to Mpika in fear for him discovering the NRC and Voter’s cards registration illegalities. Further, he challenges the police to stop intimidating citizens on various related rule of law issues as his case were he was summoned for firearms acquisition when they are the sole mandated service to issue them to citizens.

In his closing remarks, Mwiinde challenges the police officers to end animosity and improve the relationship with the citizens who have been exposed to vulnerability as they lack confidence in their system. He further reminded Inspector General of the Police Kakoma Kanganja to execute justice fairly without any special perceptions.

When PF punch us, we shall punch back twice as hard- UPND

0

The opposition UPND says Zambians will have to fight and reclaim their independence from autocratic regime of Edgar Lungu.

UPND National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango says the freedom and rights Zambia gained after Independence in 1964 has been taken by PF and it must be reclaimed.

Nalumango a former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly says UPND is ready to take on PF and give back the freedom and rights to the people. She says it will be punch for punch and that her party once punched will hit back hard twice.

The UPND National Chairperson said this in her statement below availed to Zambian Eye in which she is reflecting on the country’s 56 Independence Anniversary which falls tomorrow, 24th October 2020.

STATEMENT BY UPND CHAIRMAN, REV MUTALE NALUMANGO TO REFLECT ON INDEPENDENCE DAY.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: A CRY FOR TRUE FREEDOM

As we celebrate our 56th year of independence from colonial rule, we take time to soul search what independence has come to mean for the ordinary Zambian.

By definition a country is considered to have gained independence when it regains political control from outside forces. Little did we ever envisage that for the attainment of complete independence there was need for a country to attain internal political freedom.

By this extended version of independence, we dare to suggest that Zambia is far from being considered as a truly independent state because from 2015 the country was politically recolonized by the draconian policies of Edgar Lungu’s Patriotic Front government.

Many a Zambian that is aligned to the opposition or objective civil society has no reason to celebrate this day since Edgar Lungu took over as we have been pushed to the periphery of Zambian Society where we are not allowed freedoms of assemble, freedom of association, freedom of speech and many other such freedoms.

Any time we try to exercise these rights we are physically brutalised or jailed, worst still, some of our men and women have sadly even be killed. When one reads the history of liberation struggle in Zambia, these are the exact freedoms and acts of brutality that our freedom fighters fought against.

This therefore means that Zambians, 56 years on, are at decision point again to fight for their second independence as we will not allow our rights to be trampled on again as that would bring dishonour to the men and women of 1964!

We will, If need be, use the same tactics that our forefathers used. We will use civil disobedience if the PF continue the selective application of the Public Order Act. When they punch us, we will punch back twice and much harder.

So as the PF gather for their de jure independence celebrations, the rest of us will remain behind to plan on how we will reclaim our de facto Independence Day which we shall celebrate with all Zambians because starting August 2021 when we are sworn into government, by Gods grace and the people of Zambia’s favour, we shall guarantee all freedoms back to all Zambians including those who brutalise and kill us today.

Of course , this will be done within the dictates of the Laws of Zambia as those who will be in conflict with our laws, will have to answer before a competent and fair judiciary arm of government. For this, we are ready to fight PF.

As we close our cry for true freedom, we are reminded of the prophetic lyrical words of one of our freedom fighters, the indomitable late son of Zambia, Keith Mlevu:

Ubuntungwa twalipoka,
Mu chalo chesu icha Zambia
Nomba mune wemwina Zambia wishitishe chalo
Nga wa mona umulwani aisa no lupiya ulwingi
Wikokola umusebe we mwine wa chalo

Keith how true, today the economic space under the PF has been mortgaged to foreigners whilst Zambians are forced to sleep in containers denied the opportunity to go back home to their families.

Ubuntungwa ubwa Zambia
Natusunge ichalo chesu
Webuteko niwe wine we mwine wa chalo
Pantu nga washitisha chalo ukepaisha abantu
Kanshi mune uchenjele kuli aba ba mwisa
Abalefwaya ukonaula ichalo chesu

We urge the PF to also reflect on this great Zambian’s words. For they are the custodian of Zambia for every Zambian and not to put outsiders first; the same outsiders Kaunda, Kapwepwe, Nkumbula, and many other freedom fighters, fought so hard to reclaim our birth right from. It is such a shame that today many Zambians have to die to reclaim their place in society.

The UPND and its Alliance Partners will not allow that to happen as we promise the downtrodden that we will carry the mantle on your behalf by taking the fight to the PF.

All we ask is that you register to vote today, and give us your vote in August 2021. Let all Zambians fight for a Zambia for all Zambians. Do not look to the next person to vote for freedom for you because if not you, then who? Fight for your rights.

It is indeed dumbfounding that Zambia, as a frontline state that played a pivotal role in the liberation struggle of Southern Africa has today risen again but this time to fight a battle with the demons within. Demons who want to imprison and colonise.

With the same verve Zambia fought for SADC, this too we shall overcome as we are a country untited in our resolve to remain one people in spite of the PF. Take note PF. Ubwafitala akaimwena! ITS TIME ZAMBIA LIBERATED ITSELF COME 2021 , 12 AUGUST.

NGOCC executive director Mrs Engwase Mwale has told Zambians to reject politicians who will preach hated and tribalism as the country heads to 2021 general elections.

She said today in a statement issued in commemoration of this year’s Independence day that the country’s unity has been threatened.

“On this occasion, the women’s movement also remains deeply concerned about the polarization that is being fueled across the political divide. Over the years, the country has witnessed how politicians have sadly attempted to wedge a rift among Zambians. This year’s theme reminds us on the need for a truly ‘one land, one nation’. Zambians should frown upon and reject any machinations by politicians to divide our beautiful country on the basis of tribe for narrow sectarian interests. As the country prepares for the 2021 General Elections, Zambians should reject politicians that will preach hatred and tribalism,” Mrs Mwale said.

“As we commemorate this year’s independence we would like to appeal to all Zambians to embrace values and principles that will unite the country. While Zambia has remained relatively peaceful, we are concerned with the increased cases of political violence. We therefore call upon those in leadership, both in government and the larger political landscape, to promote national unity and cohesion. We reiterate our call to political parties to end all manner of political violence. The Zambia Police Service should also play its role as a neutral national security agency that should serve all Zambians.”

She said it is sad that 56 years after independence, more than half of people still in the country live in abject poverty.

“The theme ‘One Land, One Nation, Building Our Future Proud and Free’ would not have come at any better time than now when Zambia’s national unity is threatened. As Zambia ‘builds on the future, proud and free’, it is sad to note that 56 years after independence more than half of her people still live in abject poverty,” Mrs Mwale said. “Statistically, poverty levels stand at about 55% national average but largely bearing the face of the women as they remain more vulnerable. In addition, poverty remains high in rural areas at 76.6% and yet the women and men out there are the ones that grow more than 90% of Zambia’s food.”

Imprisoned Kambwili deserves a re-trial – Socialist Party

0

SOCIALIST Party spokesperson Rehoboth Kafwabulula says access to justice means having an impartial judge to hear one’s case.

Meanwhile, Kafwabulula notes that women are the core driving force to run every community.

She stresses that National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili, who is imprisoned, deserves a re-trial.

Kafwabulula featured on Choma’s Your Generation (YG) radio on Thursday evening.

She explained that Kambwili’s conviction and sentencing by Lusaka Magistrates’ Court principal resident magistrate David Simusamba leaves one to question whether or not he had a fair trial, in the first case.

Kambwili’s bail application pending appeal was also thrown out by magistrate Simusamba on Thursday for being irregular.

He remains incarcerated at Kamwala Correctional Facility in Lusaka.

The opposition leader has since filed a fresh notice of appeal and bail application would be heard on Monday.

“Mr Kambwili was charged, I believe sometime last year, with forgery. We’ve decided not to speak so much on the merits and demerits of the case, primarily because we’ve not been attending court sessions and we are not privy to some of the information,” Kafwabulula, who is completing her law degree next year, said.

“So, we won’t speak to things we don’t know. But what we do know is this; Dr Kambwili did complain about the magistrate hearing his case – that’s magistrate Simusamba. This is also a magistrate who has had complaints received about him by the Judicial Complaints Commission.”

She added: “the Commission, in fact, has gone a step further to say this is a magistrate who shouldn’t be listening to cases, in the first place.”

“So, what that does essentially, especially now that he (Kambwili) has been convicted, is that it leaves one to question whether or not he had a fair trial, in the first place.”

“For you to have a fair trial, the prerequisite is for you to have an impartial judge. You can’t have somebody deciding your matter who you have complained about very vocally in the past, and then tomorrow you expect them to give you a very fair judgment. That’s not how the judicial process should work,” Kafwabulula explained.

She further argued that on the basis of the foregoing, “our position is that the man should have a re-trial.”

“Simply because he is a politician doesn’t mean he should be denied justice,” Kafwabulula noted.

She further noted that one of the most prominent things in the Socialist Party manifesto was that every Zambian should have access to justice.

“Access to justice doesn’t mean just having a good lawyer. Access to justice also means having an impartial judge to hear your case, so that irrespective of the outcome, you are at least confident that your matter was heard and even if you are happy or not happy, the law has taken its course. There should be no doubt in that respect,” she noted.

“So, for us, Mr Kambwili deserves a re-trial and that’s the first thing.”

Kafwabulula also spoke about the “brutal” arrest of Kambwili’s wife, Carol, and daughter, Chanda.

She said videos have gone round on social media showing how: “the two ladies were brutally manhandled by the police.”

Kafwabulula noted that there was a ‘better’ way to arrest people.

“There is no need to exert excessive force on people. What we saw in the videos was excessive force against these two women, who did not deserve it,” she said.

“These are women who are not armed robbers to be treated with that level of brutality. So, for us that was a completely wrong action by the police.”

Asked to speak to women’s participation in national politics, Kafwabulula responded that: “women have been put on the back banner, in terms of participation in the country’s political dispensation.”

“You know that women are in the forefront in terms of running the community. You go to any community today, whether it’s Choma, Chitokoloki, Chawama in Lusaka, you’ll notice that women are the ones who make sure that the churches, markets, are running and they are the ones who make sure that children are going to school,” she said.

“So, they are like the core driving force to make sure that the community is running. But when you look at who is the leader of the community, often it’s dominated by a male face. Women do participate in community matters but often when it comes to issues of leadership, they are sidelined.”

Kafwabulula pointed out that women could no longer remain cooking at home.

“It’s not possible! What we are running is a country [and] not a company or a kantemba (makeshift store). What we are running is a country and we need it to have a national character. Often times when we discuss national character, we are talking about tribe. ‘This tribe is running things’ but national character must extend beyond regions, tribe and which ethnicities are in what office. It must go down to how much representation is given to women, to youths,” Kafwabulula noted.

“If women are not represented in Parliament, in Cabinet, how then are we going to say the policy and the law being created are going to favour women and young people? This is why the Socialist Party has a 50 – 50 quota; we’ve said 50 per cent of our candidates are going to be women – both for the parliamentary and the local government seats.”

She added that so far, “we’ve adopted about 12 candidates; five of whom are women.”

“We are lagging behind a bit [but] by December we should have rectified our mistake in that respect. But we have a policy in place that women we’ll be represented, no matter what,” said Kafwabulula.

TO HELL WITH PF…citizens rise up, challenge this devil crippling our freedoms – Luonde

0

NDC national chairperson Fr Richard Luonde has called on Zambians to rise up and reject President Edgar Lungu’s dictatorship.

In an interview after police cordoned off the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili’s bail application was scheduled for hearing, Fr Luonde said President Lungu had clearly distinguished himself as a sworn dictator.

“I’m warning President Lungu and his PF that this evil they have perpetuated will catch up on them. I call upon all citizens to rise up and challenge this devil that has crippled our freedoms. To hell with PF. To hell with their dictatorship,” he said. “President Edgar Lungu has openly and shamelessly unleashed his dictatorship on all citizens opposed to his evil schemes. Look at the way he is treating our party president Dr Chishimba Kambwili. Why is it that it’s only Dr Kambwili’s court cases that invite a heavy police presence at court and in the streets of Lusaka? Where do all these police officers suddenly come from when we are always told that police don’t have enough manpower to police our public rallies whenever we notify police about them?”

He further wondered what President Lungu was scared of for him to have completely abandoned the tenets of democracy.

Fr Luonde said it was very clear that Kambwili’s prosecution and conviction were schemed and executed by the PF.

“What is President Lungu so scared of that he should take us back to a one party state? Today, every citizen has been stopped from attending Dr Kambwili’s appeal hearing. Lungu’s police and their dogs have been unleashed like locusts, just to scare people from participating freely in their governance,” he said. “If, indeed, Dr Kambwili’s prosecution and conviction were not induced by Lungu and his PF, why have they besieged the Magistrates’ Courts? It is very clear that this case was sanctioned by PF and they are managing it. In short it is politically motivated.”

He said it was equally wrong for government to humiliate Kambwili’s wife and daughter in the name of politics.

“How does a government humiliate Dr Kambwili’s family like that? They can humiliate Dr Kambwili, but certainly not his wife and children. Would any of those in power today want their family members to be humiliated like that by the government of the day after they have left office? We should not take politics to families, please!” Fr Luonde pleaded. “We in the National Democratic Congress demand sanity in our nation. We demand our democratic rights to be restored. Further, we demand the independence of the judiciary.”

Fr Luonde bemoaned PF’s continued abuse of the judiciary to fix their opponents.

He warned that the PF were planting a bad seed that they would reap from.

“The judiciary has been turned against innocent citizens. It is now busy cleansing criminals in PF who get acquitted even before undergoing full trial. If Lungu continues with this dictatorship, people will rise and this country will blow up in flames,” said Fr Luonde. “Fellow Zambians, the situation in our country continues to deteriorate every day. And if we do not challenge it, we will all remain without any civil rights.”

ECZ is not doing away with old voter register in totality, says Inonge Wina

0

VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has told Parliament that the Electoral Commission of Zambia is not completely doing away with the current Voters’ Register.

And Vice-President Wina says the advice government receives from the opposition UPND is very disparaging.

Responding to a question from Lufwanyama UPND member of parliament Leonard Fungulwe, who wanted to know why government does not take advice from other stakeholders, Vice-President Wina said the current Voters’ Register contained many names of dead people.

“The debt crisis in Zambia is as a result of government not taking up the advice. The Minister of Finance brought a ministerial statement to the House and he confessed and he agreed to say government, they never took up the advice; and this time around the government should be able to take up the advice,” said Fungulwe. “Now, there’s also another advice given to government concerning the deleting of the current Voters’ Roll. So, Your Honour, the Vice-President, if you don’t take up this advice, don’t you think government will regret again?”

In response, Vice-President Wina claimed that only names of dead people would be removed.

This is contrary to ECZ’s official position that they will introduce a complete new register.

“Now, on the voter register, the new voter register is necessary. ECZ is not doing away with the old voter register in totality,” she said during the Vice-President’s question time. “Some of the people who have passed on still appear on the old register to the tune of 1.4 million Zambians who were voters but now they’re no more. And, surely, these should be deleted from the new voters’ register that we shall use in 2021.”

She further said the opposition UPND has condemned the current register.

Vice-President Wina said it was one of the reasons the party petitioned the courts of law in 2016.

“It was one of the reasons why they went to court to complain that the voters’ register and the register’s roll is not perfect; it needs some adjustments. All this is to ensure that there’re no litigations against the ECZ when it comes to the authenticity of the voter register,” she said. “Equally, the international community that was approached also advised that this voter register should be worked on to ensure that you come up with a valid register where the members or where the voters will have even new features, biometric features that will authenticate the voter; including the new portraits and the fingerprints, 10 fingerprints will show.”

When opposition Chief Whip and Monze Central UPND member of parliament Jack Mwiimbu later rose on a point of order, asking why the Vice-President was misleading the nation by contradicting ECZ’s position on the matter, National Assembly Speaker Patrick Matibini advised him to file a written question.

And Vice-President Wina said the UPND had never advised government formally on how to manage the huge debt the country has accumulated.

“On debt, there has never been a formal advice from the UPND to the Minister of Finance on the debt sustainability, how to manage Zambia’s debt. But the minister welcomed some of the remarks that have been made in the past from the opposition regarding Zambia’s debt,” said Vice-President Wina. “And it’s not true that this government does not receive advice. But the advice is not really coming in the form of advice; it’s coming in the form of disparaging the government. And sometimes it’s very difficult for the one who is advised in that manner to take that advice genuinely. But, on the other hand, some of the sentiments that have been expressed by the opposition have been taken on board.”

Kampyongo happy with ‘professionalism’ of Zambia Police

0

HOME affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo claims he does not sleep easily, just to ensure Zambians are secure.

He also says he is happy with the ‘professionalism’ of Zambia Police.

Meanwhile, Kampyongo, who is Shiwang’andu PF member of parliament, says he wants to leave a legacy of dignifying police officers.

He was speaking on The Assignment programme on Muvi TV on Thursday night.

Programme host, Andrew Mwansa, asked an irritated Kampyongo how he found it easy to sleep knowing that the Zambia Police killed Frank Mugala on February 13 this year, Vespers Shimunzhila in October 2018 and others have died out of police brutality or negligence.

The minister, with conceit, responded: “how do I find what? I wish you could have re-phrased it well.”

“But I will answer you in this fashion, that as minister responsible for home affairs, which overseas police, I don’t find it easy [to sleep] because I have to make sure that you are safe,” Kampyongo claimed.

“So, I don’t sleep easily, for you (interviewer) to be safe. When you talk about the losses of those lives, you also must know that the procedures that are put in place, where excesses are used, are evoked. There was an inquiry; you were just referring to the university incidence [sic]. There was inquiry and the recommendations have been done.”

He explained that in all cases where police officers were faulted for using excessive force against a citizen, “we collaborate very well with the Human Rights Commission.”

“They do an oversight function in terms of investigations. And they forward recommendations to the Ministry [of Home Affairs] and we act on those recommendations,” he noted.

Kampyongo further pointed out that maintaining law, order and peace was a mammoth task everywhere in the world.

“Public/police tensions are always out there in the world. Why is there police if we human beings were living like angels?” he said, adding that police officers were not holier but mere human beings.

Reminded that police officers were seemingly scared of PF cadres, Kampyongo said: “you are saying the police are scared of who?”

He noted that the fact that he was home affairs minister did not mean that he micro-managed the operations of Zambia Police.

“Zambia Police is an institution with command structures from top to bottom. Even where you saw the (UPND) vehicles pass there [in Serenje], the Zambia Police command at that point were in charge,” Kampyongo said.

Asked whether or not he was happy with the ‘professionalism’ being exhibited by the Zambia Police Service, Kampyongo answered that; “I’m content with it. I’m content!”

Meanwhile, Kampyongo, on the kind of legacy he would want to leave, said he would like Zambians to remember him as a citizen who had an opportunity to serve the nation in the capacity he is serving.

[As someone] who wanted to see things different, not doing business as usual; who wanted to leave a legacy of bringing dignity to his men and women in uniform, who have been looked down upon in the past,” wished Kampyongo.

“Uniform was an issue for a police officer who is saving your life and my life. [There was] no decent accommodation….”

If Bill 10 is passed into law, it will legalise dictatorship, corruption

0

[By Gibson Kapili]

THE period between now and 12th August 2021 presents defining moments in the history of our country.

The gravest mistake of our generation will be to pass Bill 10 into law. It will poison politics and the economy for generations to come. James Arthur Ray once said, “In life’s defining moments, there are two choices – you either step forward in faith and power or you step backward into fear.” Fear in this case includes accepting corruption.

When you see an African president making self-conscious efforts to repudiate the essential characteristics of the Constitution and destroy its foundation without people showing the will to allow major changes in an election year, just know that his motives are destructive. While in other African countries snares are hidden by framers of the Bill, PF has openly shown us that the objective of overhauling the Constitution is neither correcting the flaws nor making clauses elaborative, but to manipulate the Constitution to their advantage. It explains why they are coercing MPs rather than winning their understanding.

Some opposition MPs are being induced with money while those in PF are being promised re-adoption. Yet, several of them will not be adopted, especially those who signed the petition to impeach the Head of State.

Our democracy is currently on the deathbed. In any governance system, the executive is always the primary source of tyranny. A Constitution is the only mechanism of controlling them. One thing that I have learnt is that as we allow and watch politicians to push the boundary of their influence dressed with arrogance and selfish ambition, we strengthen self-belief. And that leads them to further entrench themselves in power, regardless of how they may perform.

Ignorance is very risky. People perish for lack of knowledge, says the Bible. Many Zambians have a limited view of the destructive Bill 10 will cause if passed into law. It will destroy constitutional democracy, legimitise corruption and legalise dictatorship. It will change the social and political order such that it will take many years and bloodshed of our children for our governance system to return to democracy. It is important at this juncture to thank UPND and Independent MPs who God is using to defend our freedoms and rights. They have resisted the pressure into giving up their fight for defending the manipulation of our constitution. We continue keeping our fingers crossed as we remain with less than 10 months before elections.

Bill 10 will repeal Article 47(2) “First -past the post electoral system” and replace it with “Mixed member electoral system.” This should be read together with Article 68, where PF government currently seeks to remove the limit of 168 MPs to a limitless number. This will ensure that PF has the majority in parliament.

Dictators flourish when there is no freedom of speech to voice out the wrongs or a free press, but most importantly when we give them a majoritarian parliament. The Bill will also lead to electoral fraud and institutionalise elective dictatorship. Bill 10 could criminalise questioning decisions of the executive. For instance, they may embed a law in the Constitution that if you allege something about the executive without evidence you commit an offence.

They could even embed a law that if you have stood for elections four times you are banned from standing. Equally, the two-term eligibility clause for a presidential candidate may be repealed. Basically, it simply means that the Constitution will lose its purpose. It will become a tool of fixing opponents rather than foundational agreement that holds the hopes and dreams of a nation.

The doctrine of separation of powers and checks of powers

In the current Constitution, power is somehow balanced among the three arms of government. Bill 10 will destroy the separation of powers between the three arms of government. The executive will have unabated power and excess control over the legislature and judiciary. This simply means that the executive with a skewed Parliament could even use marshal law for genuine peaceful protests of citizens, and the oppression of people will be legally sanctioned in the Constitution. This has been demonstrated by excessive procurement of military equipment for the police.

It is now clear why God allowed a hang parliament. He knew that one day Caesar who was considered as a life dictator during the Roman Empire would resurrect in Zambia. On 18th October 2020 during the National Day of Prayer and Fasting, one priest told us that we have a Caesar in Zambia. On this day, our democracy was sacrificed on the altar of the goddess. There were prayers in tongues to ensure Bill 10 goes through.

Truth be told, no human being wants to go through pain in life, whether the oppressed or the oppressor. We may suffer brutality and persecution now, provided we know that we have a Constitution that can defend our dignity, rights and freedoms, then we have hope that one day things will turn around for better. Egypt mistreated Israel for 400 years (PF four years), but in less than a year God turned things around for them.

Despite being under PF siege, the edifice of the Zambian Constitution has endured so far. I appeal to our MPs to please not forget the purpose of the Constitution. They should be prepared to sacrifice instant gratification for the fulfillment of a bigger purpose. A Constitution is a heritage, which we shall bequeath our future generation.

56 Years Of Independence, Yet Still Economically Dependent

0

October 24th 2020
JCTR Press Statement on Independence Day Celebrations.

56 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE, YET STILL ECONOMICALLY DEPENDENT.

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) joins the rest of the country in commemorating the 56th Anniversary of Independence on Saturday 24 October 2020. The Centre upholds in high esteem the role that the nation’s forefathers and mothers played in attaining independence for our beloved country.

However, the Centre wishes to raise pertinent issues in relation to independence and freedom with respect to economic and social justice informed by human rights and moral imperatives. The commitments to the independence narrative and ideology are slowly fading away. Independence is about every Zambian citizen living a dignified life. We owe a moral responsibility to the next generations to pass onto them a viable and enabling environment characterized by economic emancipation through self-sustainability and reliance.

Over the last 56 years of independence, Zambia has enjoyed the long earned reputation of peace on the continent and beyond. However, JCTR is concerned with the rate of political violence threatening this long earned reputation. The Centre implores government to take a lead in sensitizing its citizens to reject all forms of violence in our society.
JCTR is also deeply concerned with the rapidly weakening economy in our country which is jeopardizing the economic and social justice of the ordinary citizens, especially the poor, the marginalized and the vulnerable. The irony is that as we celebrate our country’s independence today, we cannot but lament the current shrinking fiscal space in Zambia.
Zambia’s total external debt stock now stands at US$27 billion dollars, which, literally is equivalent to the country’s GDP. The national debt stock was US$11.97 billion as of June 2020. Further, the fiscal deficit, the inflation rate and the depreciation of the currency are on the rise.

This is not the first time Zambia has found herself in a debt crisis. Government must learn from these experiences and come up with a lasting solution to avoid finding ourselves in this same bad place over and over again. Government must pursue fiscal consolidation and stop further borrowing. Further, government must put in place a transparent debt contraction mechanism and a robust and workable debt management and debt sustainability strategy.

From the 2021 national budget, it is evident that funds allocated to the social sector have shrunk significantly thereby affecting the ordinary person’s access to health, education, clean water and sanitation. This will further compromise human development and undermine promotion of human dignity and attainment of the common good.
Additionally, JCTR calls for adoption of transformative and servant leadership model at all levels of governance in our society. As we celebrate 56 years of independence, the maturity of our independence and democracy will be measured by the degree of our leaders’ willingness to drive a common good agenda rather than a self-enrichment agenda. All the wealth and resources divinely endowed on Zambia is meant for the benefit and the welfare of all the Zambian people without any discrimination. Happy Independence Day and may God continue to bless Zambia.

“Its Sad That 56 Years Have Passed And Zambia Has Not Yet Achieved Holistic Independence” – Prophet Isaac

0

“ITS SAD THAT 56 YEARS HAVE PASSED AND ZAMBIA HAS NOT YET ACHIEVED HOLISTIC INDEPENDENCE” – PROPHET ISAAC

It is baseless for Zambians to celebrate independence when they are still financially and socially incarcerated, Prophet Isaac has said. Speaking in Monze yesterday on the eve of Independence Day, Prophet Isaac disclosed that he has made a unique decision of requesting the entire Zambian cabinet to appear before him today so that it can be counselled on the need to give Zambians real independence which everyone is going to appreciate.

He said it was ungodly for those in government to claim that Zambia was independent when 90% of its citizens are living in abject poverty. The Renowned fearless Clergyman said it was heart-breaking to observe that while many countries in Africa were celebrating holistic independence, people in Zambia are only subjected to celebrate the number which is now 56th Anniversary because only those in the ruling party were socially, politically and financially independent as they enjoy unlimited access state resources, protection from law enforcement officers and clearly immune from arrest and prosecution regardless of the offences they commit.

He said it was saddening that after 56 years of independence, mealie meal in Zambia was selling at over K100 despite the country being blessed with precious minerals such as gold, diamond and copper which he said was unfortunately only advantaging those in the Ruling Party.

The Prophet also took a swipe at some clergymen and women whom he termed ‘politically excited church leaders’ who were preventing their mouths from condemning corruption and tribalism championed by those in government for fear of offending those who are stealing from Zambians and dividing them day and night. He said some clergymen have developed a tendency of worshiping and praising leaders that are stealing from poor Zambians instead of speaking against wide spread corruption by those in government which he said has now been institutionalised.

He said it was demonic that after 56 years of independence, Zambians were still subjected to constant load shedding, tribal talks, political violence, shortages of medicines in hospitals, rapidly depression of the kwacha, police brutality, short of fuel and uninterrupted daily increase of commodities across the country where over 90% of people are unemployed. The Prophet bemoaned that today in Zambia for any graduate to be employed in the civil service be it in nursing, teaching, police or in military, he or she needs to bribe those recruiting in order to be employed, a trend which he said is satanic. Prophet Isaac added that if those in government could fight corruption, political violence, inequality and poverty the same way they are fighting and intimidating political opponents, Zambians could this time been celebrating real independence as they could have been real development across the country not the current development which is only being enjoyed by those in power.

Prophet Isaac now wishes all Zambians God’s Blessings as they celebrate 56th political impendence from Great Britain. He is urging all Zambians to pressure those in authority to give them proper economic and social independence so that the rule of law is respected by all Zambians of tribe or political inclination. God Bless Zambia and Happy Independence.
(Prophet Isaac)

Independence Day Should Be Declared a Day of National Mourning – Simataa

Independence Day Should Be Declared a Day of National Mourning – Simataa

—————————————————————
By CIC Reporter | 24 Oct 2020 | Lusaka
—————————————————————
UPND firebrand aspiring councillor for Kamwala Ward 5, Mainda Simataa, says October 24 should be declared a day of national mourning because all the social, economic and political achievements of the UNIP and MMD governments in the past 56 years have been stolen by the PF government in under 10 years.

Simataa who’s also a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah School of revolution in South Africa, Patrice Lumumba Class, explained that Zambia was now under the yoke of Chinese neocolonialism – a term he says refers to the new tactics used by developed countries like China to control and exploit the labour and resources of poorer African countries using debt and aid in place of guns and force.

“Look, today we’re saying happy independence day to each other, but have we asked how many Zambians have jobs and money in their pockets to celebrate the same independence day today?

“We’re busy posting happy independence wishes on Facebook and whatsapp, but are we aware that in western province and Luapula there’s 80% poverty levels – that people survive on roots and mangoes? In Lusaka and copperbelt poverty is over 70%, so if majority of Zambians are starving, then what are we celebrating?

“If we look at the economy, when MMD left power the dollar was at K5, 25kg meali-meal was K40, national debt was $3 billion. Today under PF the dollar is at K20, meali-meal is at K200, and the national debt is $27 billion, our generation will never finish paying that debt: is that what we are celebrating?”

“We’re told that we won freedom when we kicked out the white colonial masters 56 years ago, but today we have yellow Chinese masters who’ve hijacked government and our economy, kicking our workers buttocks, and even shooting them – is that what we’re celebrating?”

Simataa added that today’s Independence must mean free quality healthcare and education for all, quality jobs, housing, food, freedom from poverty, hunger, unemployment and corrupt leadership… “I tell you, when we achieve these basic things for all our people, then I can truly celebrate Independence with a free conscience, but today I choose to mourn for the millions of suffering Zambians, even if they don’t see the bigger picture…I must see it for them.”

THE YOUNGEST MP SPENDS INDEPENDENCE DAY IN PRISON

THE YOUNGEST MP SPENDS INDEPENDENCE DAY IN PRISON

By Florence Muyunda CIC Private Reporter

The youngest member of parliament in Zambia the MP for sesheke Central Constituency Romeo Kangombe has spent this year’s independence day in prison simply for exercising his freedoms of association and conscious and sadly for being a member of the opposition political party UPND.

At the time when everyone thought the ground was fertile for young people and women to participate in Zambian politics a dictator has been born in Edgar Lungu so determined to make it very difficult for a young person and a woman to be in a political ring.

At the time we should be cerebrating independence in Zambian we are all home and thinking on how we can be free from PF dictatorship which has gripped the country in the past few years. Opposition members can be arrested without any offence just for PF to prove that they’re in power, opposition political party members can be killed by both police and ruling PF cadres and the president will do or say nothing about it all because it works to his advantage, anybody who thinks and sees things differently from PF that one becomes a criminal and must be killed by PF.

The only offence that this youngest MP has committed is to belong to the opposition political party and visiting a Province he wasn’t born from within Zambia. It is unfortunate that we are back 56 years ago as a country to start afresh fighting for Independence at the expenses of developing our country all because President Edgar Lungu doesn’t want to leave statehouse at whatever cost be it lives of people or not, be it peace of this country or not all what he cares about is to remain in state house after 2021

Young people never give up don’t be discouraged by what is happening to our young MP Romeo Kangombe get in the political ring for it is the only way we will defeat this brutal monster PF regime

We need a new independence day in Zambia because we are not free Politically, we are not free economically, we are not free traditionally and we are not free socially.

Every young person and well meaning Zambian must stand with Honourable Romeo Kangombe Mp he is a rare personality among young people in Zambia

Finally I put it to you today that the people who died and got Injured towards 1964 Independence at the hands of our colonial masters are at par or less than the people that have been killed under Edgar Lungu regime simply for exercising their democratic and constitutional rights under PF.

Chanting down cancer with the Fourth Republican President at his crib on Independence Day 2020 – Edem Djokotoe

Edem Djokotoe writes….

Chanting down cancer with the Fourth Republican President at his crib on Independence Day 2020. The Big Man and I touched base, shared experiences and a few laughs, seeing we are both afflicted by the same kind of cancer, have endured the brutality of chemotherapy and are still standing, still shining, still smiling.

The former President is as affable and as avuncular as I have always known him to be and his mind is as sharp as ever. He doesn’t forget faces or people and can immediately locate you in a time and a place.

He and I agree on one thing–that we can use our experience of cancer, debilitating as this may be, to bring hope to others and share what we know that may not be common knowledge with others. And therein lies the ministry of hope I talked about just a few short days ago. Indeed where there is life, there is hope.

I was happy to discover that we both have the same inclination towards ital food. As we chatted and swapped war stories about our skirmishes with chemotherapy, we found out that actually we eat the same things and drink the same things to help the body recover from the ravages of toxic treatment. For instance, if you are on chemo, you might want to make lumanda, pumpkin leaves and okra a big part of your diet because all three are very effective in the regenerative contribution they make to the body’s capacity to endure.

And then we got talking about the things we both drink. Turmeric tea flavoured with ginger. Good thing is all the things we were talking about he grows in his garden. Great example of ital living.

From his favourite perch on the verandah at the back of his house, we watched zebras and some species of antelope grazing peacefully, without a care in the world, without having to worry about predators lurking in the undergrowth.
“Watching the animals relaxes me and gives me a positive outlook on life in spite of everything,” he said. And I couldn’t agree more. You don’t have to be in our situation to realise that eliminating stress and negativity from your being improves your quality of life.

Soon, it was time to leave to give The Big Man time to catch up on his beauty sleep, but for me, this will remain one of the most memorable and most meaningful Independence Days I have spent in this country. God bless Zambia.

MY MESSAGE OF FREEDOM TO ANYONE THAT IS BOUND BY ANDREW [ Aka seer1 ]…LIBERATE YOURSELF TODAY.

As we celebrate Independence Day today, some of you are bound by fear because Andrew has managed to pour the hot oil of deception into your ear and he has made you believe every word he says.

This morning I received a call from a young lady that informed me that she was once a victim of Andrew’s falsehoods and antics. She narrated a very sad story.

She sent Andrew [ aka blind1 aka seer1] $US2000 in exchange for some “THINGS”.

Those things consisted of 3 items:

1. A bottle of anointing oil that had his picture on it and the words “Do as I say”
2. A bottle of white rock salt.
3. A cheap silver ring.

Andrew convinced her that her business would prosper if she sent the money and he would in turn send her “his products.” She promptly sent him $US2000 via a bank transfer and Andrew sent the above mentioned items through DHL.

When she received the “things” she tried to contact him in order to find out what she was supposed to do with these things. Andrew, all of a sudden became unreachable. Finally she demanded her money back because he became elusive.

In retaliation, Andrew began to threaten her by saying, “I’ve brought down Governments…who are you?” He went on to tell her that the ancestral spirits were very displeased with her and that she would commit suicide within a matter of days.

The lady was surprised by his utterances because his tone changed and he became very aggressive with her.

I asked this lady why she sent him so much money? “For you to have $2000 , it means you’re a woman of means…why would you send a swindler such a huge sum of money?” She said, “Mr. Mwewa, he deceived me by taking advantage of my ignorance on spiritual matters”

I told the lady not to fear him…FEAR is Andrew’s oxygen. When he instills fear into you, he then proceeds to brainwash you into believing every word that drips from his poisonous mouth.

I asked the lady to describe her family set up, she said both parents had passed away. I told her that Papas like woman that have no male figure in their lives.

I said, “Andrew groomed you over a period of time and you became his puppet.” The lady paused for a moment and said, “Yes, but I don’t fear him anymore because I’ve come to learn he’s just a swindler that takes advantage of vulnerable women”

I finally told the lady to share her story with as many people as possible. I told her not to Shield him by concealing her identity…because by doing so, “you’re protecting him…just come out and tell your story”

So what’s the lesson here?

You young Zambian girls that send Andrew Money, you’re wasting your resources and you’re becoming his SLAVE…BREAK FREE TODAY.

This Haitian dictator became president at 19 and spent $5m on his wedding

Jean-Claude Duvalier was just 19 when he succeeded his father, François “Papa Doc” Duvalier, who had ruled Haiti since 1957.

Assuming the post as “president for life”, as he and his father called it, Duvalier became the youngest head of state at the time. Like his father, he ruled with an iron hand and suppressed effective opposition, largely with the support of brutal paramilitary secret police agents known as the Tontons Macoutes.

The “Baby Doc”, as Duvalier was also called, governed Haiti for 15 years – from April 22 to February 7, 1986 – longer than his father’s and this has been attributed to the support he received from Western governments such as the U.S., as well as, financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Duvalier would later relax his iron fist, but his extravagancies and the continuous arrest of opponents led him into exile in February 1986 after he was forced from power by a popular uprising.

Born in Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-Prince, in 1951, Duvalier was the only son and youngest of the four children of his father, Papa Doc and his wife, Simone, a former nurse.

Papa Doc, who was once a medical doctor during his time on a U.S. Army-sponsored disease-eradication campaign in rural Haiti, first came to power in 1957 following elections when Duvalier was around 6 years old.

The father adopted an authoritarian rule “enveloped in black empowerment and voodoo” and in 1964 declared himself president for life. By November 1970, the old man had grown weak and ill, and he formally named his teenage son as his successor.

Duvalier was then an introvert and a martial arts enthusiast, who loved fast cars and jazz. The University of Haiti graduate, initially, did not like the idea of succeeding his father as he saw it as a distraction from the things he loved.

An article on the Independent said an obese Duvalier wanted his sister to take the presidency role but the day after his father’s death, the young man became the world’s youngest head of state.

For years, Duvalier was hardly in control of affairs, as he left the country’s administration to his mother and her lover, Luckner Cambronne. Cambronne began a flourishing business exporting five tons of blood plasma a month and also traded in cadavers under the watchful eye of Duvalier.

When Duvalier took over full responsibilities, he tried to reform the state and deal with its poverty crisis, unemployment issues and lack of investment. But his dictatorial and authoritarian approach, as well as, influences from his mother, hindered the above.

He hardly made public appearances, yet, news of his lavish lifestyle and spending at the expense of the majority poor in the state was widely known. What made matters worse was the alleged $5 million wedding that he had in 1980 with his lover, Michele Bennet, the daughter of a wealthy coffee baron.

She immediately stamped her authority when she entered the presidential palace and forced Duvalier on to a slimming diet, threatening staff against any excess meals. Duvalier was less harsh than his father and occasionally released political prisoners and tolerated divergent opinions, but poverty and suppression of dissent soon returned, with the aid of his feared militia.

According to human rights organisations, hundreds of people were killed under his administration while several others fled.

“Papa Doc was more openly brutal. Baby Doc was smoother,” said Robert Duval, the son of a Haitian businessman who was arrested shortly after his return from university studies in Canada in 1976 and held for 18 months without charge.

“Fear had got into people and few dared to talk. You always kept a smile on your face and never caught yourself saying anything critical. Many left the country,” Duval who had filed a case against Duval in 2011 was quoted by the Financial Times.

While in power, Duvalier was presented as a firm anti-Communist and this improved his relations with the U.S., as he bargained for aid and was given the resources he needed to maintain his lavish lifestyle in one of the world’s poorest countries.

When the country suffered a foreign exchange crisis in 1980, the situation was salvaged with a $22m loan from the IMF. Unsurprisingly, the Independent reports that $4m went to the Tontons Macoutes and $16m to the president’s personal accounts.

Following months of widespread demonstrations and the withdrawal of support for his regime by the U.S., Duvalier went off to live in exile in the south of France on the night of February 5, 1986.

Reports said he had asked France for asylum and the United States for the plane which whisked him from Haiti with his wife, daughter, son, and hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen money.

In France, Duvalier still lived flamboyantly, mostly depending on several accounts in many cities, including Barclays in London and Amro in Geneva. But he lost a huge chunk of money after divorcing his wife in 1993 and some $6m he held in Swiss bank accounts was frozen in 1986, the BBC reported.

He would depend on support from his friends and followers, including his mistress, Vèronique Roy, whom he lived with in a one-bedroom flat in Paris.

In 2011, after 25 years away in exile, Duvalier returned to Haiti that was then struggling to get back on its feet after a devastating earthquake. Duvalier quashed claims that his return was for political purposes, stressing that he just wanted to help rebuild the Caribbean nation.

Yet, many felt that he was back to secure money that was still stashed away while others said he had returned to die, considering his ill-health. Duvalier, upon his return, was briefly detained on charges of corruption, theft and misappropriation of funds. A Haitian court further ruled in 2014 that he could be charged with crimes against humanity under international law, and be held responsible for abuses committed by security forces under his rule.

Denying any of these offences, Duvalier remained in a hotel in the mountains above Port-au-Prince, where he died of a heart attack in October of that year before he could be put before trial.

“Duvalier’s death deprives Haitians of what could have been the most important human rights trial in the country’s history,” said Reed Brody of New York-based Human Rights Watch, who helped Duvalier’s victims build the criminal case.

He said that under Duvalier, “hundreds of political prisoners held in a network of prisons died from mistreatment or were victims of extrajudicial killings.”

“Duvalier’s government repeatedly closed independent newspapers and radio stations. Journalists were beaten, in some cases tortured, jailed, and forced to leave the country.”

When he fled Haiti, he held $200 million to $500 million in foreign bank accounts, reported the New York Times, and gave his family members million-dollar vacations at luxury resorts, while scores of Haitians lived in poverty.

Though there have been subsequent leaders, many observers say that Duvalier’s style of leadership torments Haiti till today.

INDEPENDENCE DAY;THE LINGERING QUESTIONS ARE WE REALLY FREE?

INDEPENDENCE DAY;THE LINGERING QUESTIONS ARE WE REALLY FREE?

Today, Zambia turns 56 years old since we were declared free from colonial rule, but are we really free? What would Independence mean in the national Outlook? Is what we have all the independence we could dream of?

As we are routinely expected and lately compelled to commemorate and celebrate our Independence Day, 24th October,it is important to reflect and interrogate the contextual dimensions espoused in the struggle by our forefathers at the time.

What prompted our forefathers to begin the ardous and uncertain bloody struggle for liberation? They looked beyond their day and pictured a future for the next generation.

The circumstances at the time painted a very bleak future and certain doom for the natives. They lived in the midst of plenty, but were ever in want. They owned the land but the endowments were forcefully taken by the colonial masters.

Their freedom was regulated with brutal censure for any infraction. Even when they could have some money, they were supposed to buy through the pidgeon holes as a sub species. They were not permitted to comment on the administrative direction of their land and future.

Anyone who would attempt to question the status quo was countered with the worst brutality imaginable. This is the context that should form the basis of our reflection and voluntarily participation. This should be the platform upon which we should launch our next struggle. We need to compare and contrast our times.

A people ceases to exist the moment they stop asking their leaders important questions that affects their daily livelihood. We need to raise contemporary Questions as we move in our direction of national building for the next generation. Let’s postulate and forecast our national trajectory. Where are we now in relation to the Independence our forefathers dearly paid for? In all fairness, our situation is far much worse and inexcusable than the colonial era.

The colonisers were foreigners with no native connection or interest. But how do you explain the multiplication of the social and economic ills at the hands of fellow Zambians? The alienation and intentional deployment of state institutions to purge Political participation? What kind of a future and country are we going to bequeath to our children on this trajectory? These are the honest question we should seriously begin to ask ourselves as a generation.

A Zambia we should all stand and Sing of,proud and free remains elusive. Who can stand up today, when the PF alpha and Omega under Edgar Chagwa Lungu have criminalized the freedom of expression. Who can ever be proud when everyone is expected to ululate the failed policies of PF?

Any divergence is now punishable by death or doctored judicial jail terms. Our pride should have been our freedom, equitable participation, access and unity in diversity. What kind of Independence are we in reality celebrating when our economy has been sodomized by our own brothers and sisters entrusted with the duty to build our nation? What kind of Independence can we celebrate when the criminals are celebrated and the law abiding citizens are criminalized?

What kind of Independence can we talk about when our country is overrun by foreigners? What kind of Independence can we talk about when our country is swallowed by a mountain debt? What kind of Independence can we talk about when Corruption, crime and lawlessness are institutionally promoted.

Yes, Independence day reminds us that we have lost the struggle for the right. This is a day we should commit to a new struggle. The struggle we should all participate in to regain our national identity. A struggle to overcome tribal divisions.A struggle to restore the principle of separation of powers in government. A struggle to restore institutional integrity. A struggle to create a new and better Zambia for all.

This day, is a reminder that our lost indepence as espoused by our forefathers must be regained through a spirit of renewed sacrife and Patriotism. Let’s not bury our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich. The few enjoying the plunder should not stiffle our cry for an equitable society. The Independence we need is one where Democracy should be lived and practised with unbridled freedom.
