Russian Official Dmitry Medvedev Calls Iran’s Control of Strait of Hormuz Its “Tested Nuclear Weapon”

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former President of Russia, has made a bold statement amid the recent US-Iran truce.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev wrote:
“It’s not clear how the truce between Washington and Tehran will play out. But one thing is certain – Iran has tested its nuclear weapons. It is called the Strait of Hormuz. Its potential is inexhaustible.”

He later added that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed again, referring to it metaphorically as a powerful strategic tool that demonstrated Iran’s leverage during the recent conflict.

This comment comes after the United States and Iran agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire, brokered with involvement from Pakistan.

The deal was tied to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments following disruptions that impacted energy markets worldwide. Both sides have claimed aspects of victory, but the truce remains fragile amid ongoing regional tensions, including developments in Lebanon.

Important Note: Medvedev’s remark is rhetorical and does not indicate that Iran has conducted an actual nuclear detonation or test. There is no credible evidence from US intelligence, the IAEA, or independent sources confirming any Iranian nuclear weapons test. Experts continue to assess that Iran maintains a nuclear threshold capability but has no active structured weapons program.
