SP’S POSITION ON FORMING ALLIANCES NOT UNILATERAL- M’MEMBE

….as he reaffirms commitment to party constitution

Lusaka— Monday August 19th 2024

Socialist Party Zambia President Dr Fred M’membe  says he does not have  unilateral power to enter into political alliances.

Dr. M’membe has emphasized that only the National Congress, the highest decision-making body within the party, has the authority to approve any alliance.

“I don’t have the power as President of the party to enter into an alliance. Even if I wanted to, I don’t have that power,” Dr. M’membe said.

He further clarified that this restriction applies to all levels of leadership within the party, including the General Secretary and the Central Committee.

Dr. M’membe also noted that the decision-making process within the Socialist Party is structured and transparent.

“Should the Congress decide to consider an alliance, thorough discussions and scrutiny would be involved, ensuring that any decision aligns with the party’s principles.” He said.

He added that the Socialist Party’s stance contrasts with other political parties where leaders may have the mandate to independently enter into alliances.

His remarks come as a response to criticism that the party’s leadership is dictatorial, an accusation he strongly refuted by highlighting the party’s democratic processes.

Dr. M’membe reiterated that any decision to enter an alliance must be approved by the Congress, ensuring that the party remains true to its foundational principles and collective decision-making processes.

He was speaking during a media interaction on Monday.

  1. The guilty are always afraid of their own shadow. Yes you seem to have realized that you can not take people for granted. You seem to feel you are always right in all that you do and this is very dangerous for you as it questions the integrity of God’s creation of uniqueness in everyone.
