TONSE ALLIANCE EXTENDS ADOPTION DEADLINE.

…Cites surge in aspiring candidates ahead of August 2026 polls

Lusaka… Wednesday, 1 April 2026 ( Tonse Media).

The Tonse Alliance has extended the deadline for submitting applications to contest various positions in the August 13, 2026 general elections, citing an overwhelming response from aspiring candidates.

National Chairman for Elections and Campaigns, Hon. Japhen Mwakalombe, announced that the application period has been extended from April 1 to April 14.

He said the decision was also influenced by challenges related to certification processes at the Zambia Qualifications Authority.

“Tonse Alliance has become a very favourable political alliance in this country. Because of that, we have seen a lot of people coming forward to apply as councillors. The Office of the Secretary General is overwhelmed with applications,” he said.

Mr Mwakalombe said that the adoption process for candidates will take place at ward and constituency levels between April 15 and April 20 to ensure that selected candidates are widely accepted by local communities.

He has also stated payment procedures for applicants.

“All payments for councillor positions should be made to the ward or constituency chairperson. Those applying for mayoral or parliamentary positions must submit their applications through the provincial chairperson,” he said.

Mr Mwakalombe has since urged all provincial chairpersons within the alliance to take the process seriously and provide necessary support to aspiring candidates.
