U.S. Reportedly Loses 16 MQ-9 Reaper Drones in Iran Conflict, Estimated Damage Nears $500 Million
Reports indicate that the United States has lost a total of 16 MQ-9 Reaper armed drones since the onset of hostilities with Iran. Among the most recent incidents, two drones were reportedly downed near the city of Isfahan earlier this week.
Each MQ-9 Reaper is valued at approximately $30 million, placing the total estimated losses close to $500 million. The circumstances surrounding the losses remain unclear, with no official confirmation detailing whether they were brought down by air defense systems, electronic warfare, or operational failures.
The reported losses, if confirmed, could signal increasing risks for U.S. aerial operations in contested airspace, particularly in areas with dense and layered defense capabilities.
