UK Officially Designates Iran’s IRGC as a Terrorist Organization

The United Kingdom has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, marking one of the most significant shifts in Britain’s policy toward Tehran.

Under the new designation, it is now a criminal offence in the UK to become a member of the IRGC, publicly express support for the group, attend its meetings, or display its symbols. Individuals found guilty of violating the ban could face severe criminal penalties under British counterterrorism legislation.

The move is intended to strengthen the UK’s national security framework and curb activities linked to the IRGC on British soil. British officials argue that the organization has been involved in activities that threaten international security, including alleged support for militant groups, assassination plots, and hostile operations abroad.

The decision is expected to further strain already tense relations between London and Tehran. Iranian authorities have repeatedly rejected accusations against the IRGC, describing the force as an official branch of the country’s armed forces responsible for protecting Iran’s national security and sovereignty.

The UK joins a growing number of countries that have imposed tougher measures against the IRGC, a move that could have wider diplomatic and geopolitical consequences across the Middle East and beyond.
