12 US Senators Urge Trump to Scrap Russian Diesel Deal

A bipartisan group of 12 US senators has urged President Donald Trump to cancel his agreement allowing Russian-origin diesel to enter global markets, warning that the arrangement could provide Moscow with additional revenue to sustain its war against Ukraine.

In a letter dated October 13, the lawmakers — including six Republicans — called on Trump to reverse the deal and implement sanctions authorized by Congress against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The senators argued that the agreement would do little to reduce fuel prices for American consumers while allowing the Kremlin to benefit financially from renewed diesel exports.

The Trump administration has defended the arrangement as a measure to ease high energy costs, arguing that it serves American interests amid disruptions to global fuel markets.

The dispute has exposed growing divisions in Washington over how to balance domestic energy prices with efforts to restrict Russia’s wartime revenues.
