2026 WAFCON: Malawi Captain Chawinga Begs Super Falcons for Mercy Ahead of Opener

Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga has made a light-hearted appeal to the Super Falcons ahead of their opening Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco

According to a report by The Punch, speaking during a pre-tournament panel featuring several African stars, including Ghana’s Cynthia Konlan and Egypt’s Nadine Ghazi, Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala playfully teased the Chawinga sisters about Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

In response, Chawinga jokingly pleaded with the Super Falcons not to beat Malawi by a heavy margin.

“Super Falcons need to calm down. Do not give us 5-0, please. 1-0 is enough,” Chawinga said in a playful exchange that has since gained attention on social media.

Nigeria head into the tournament as defending champions after reclaiming the WAFCON title in 2025.

The Super Falcons are also the competition’s most successful team, having won a record 10 titles, and will be aiming to secure an unprecedented 11th continental crown.

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt.

All the group’s matches will be played in Rabat, with Nigeria set to begin their campaign against Malawi on July 28.
