22 COWS KILLED BY LIGHTNING IN SIKONGO

Wednesday, 14th October,2026

Tragedy has struck Luwe Village in Sikongo District where 22 cows have died after being struck by lightning on Monday, 12th October, 2026.

The incident has left four families devastated after losing their livestock, which is their main source of livelihood.
Among the affected is Mukubi Village Headman, Induna Richard Namushi Muwana, who lost ten cows in the disaster.

Induna Muwana says the loss has heavily affected him as cattle rearing was his major source of income which he used to support his family and sponsor his children to school.

He further disclosed that this is not the first time he has experienced such a loss, as he lost 25 cows in a similar incident in 2015.

He has since appealed to government to intervene and render support to the affected families

Meanwhile, the Sikongo District Commissioner has assured the affected families that the matter will be referred to relevant authorities, including the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), to ensure that assistance is provided.
