29 UPND CANDIDATES URGE GARY NKOMBO TO RESPECT THE PRESIDENCY

The 29 adopted UPND parliamentary candidates in Southern Province, together with former Members of Parliament who were not adopted, have called on former Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Gary Nkombo to focus on issue-based politics and respect President Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking through a joint media statement issued today, the candidates said they reject remarks they attributed to Mr. Nkombo, which they claim undermine the dignity of the Presidency. They urged him to campaign on development issues rather than engaging in what they described as petty politics.

The group also alleged that Mr. Nkombo has been associating with opposition political figures while publicly identifying with the UPND. They further appealed to him not to involve the people of Bweengwa in his personal political campaign, but instead focus on government programmes such as the Constituency Development Fund, free education, meal allowances, and infrastructure development.

The candidates reaffirmed their support for President Hakainde Hichilema and expressed confidence that the UPND would secure victory in the August 13, 2026, general elections

    • Nkombo started it on his campaigns, claiming that he did not know why he was dismissed. During campaigns, especially at the beginning, he used to tell his supporters that he was still supporting UPND when HH had already expressed that UPND doesn’t need support from independents.

Therefore, the President owed it to the Mazabuka people to explain why he did not want to work with Nkombo. He owed it to the people of Mazabuka.
