5 ARMED ROBBERS STEAL K4, 000, 000 FROM MANYANYA, AS SUSPECTS REMAIN ON THE RUN

Gun-armed robbers snatched millions of Kwacha in a broad day robbery from Manyanya group of companies in Nakonde on Wednesday Morning.

Over K4, 000, 000 has gone missing after 5 unidentified thieves attacked Manyanya group of companies manager in a booked taxi on his way to deposit the money to a bank in Nakonde.

Fordson Mwangala, a company account on his way from Tanzania to the Zambian side was ambushed in the company of a taxi driver he booked to deposit the sum of money to a bank in Nakonde.

Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Ronald Zambo tells Nakonde Radio FM News that the incident happened as the duo reached near the company’s Nakonde branch taxi rank along the Great-North Road when masked armed robbers using a Toyota Allion silver in colour blocked the road hence looking the doors and windows.

Mr. Zambo explains that two of the robbers had guns which looked like pistols and ordered the driver to open the door which he declined leading to one of the assailants to shot at the bonnet and windscreen prompting the driver to open the car doors.

He says the duo was immediately ordered to lay on the ground facing downwards while one of the attackers grabbed two sacker bags with money amounting to K4, 000, 000 and sped off the southern direction of the Great-North Road.

Mr. Zambo further says the the victim duet attempted to follow up but, could not manage hence the accountant reporting the matter to Police.

He says Police visited the scene and picked up three bullet cartilage one for an AK47 while two for a pistol.

The Deputy Commissioner says two passer-by victims were shot at, identified as 35-year-old Brian Silungwe of Nakonde District and 33-year-old Ireen Asubisya of Tanzania who sustained abdominal gunshots and currently nursing wounds at Nakonde District Hospital.

Mr. Zambo further explains that last night the robbers abandoned two AK47 rifles and two guns including the vehicle used for the robbery in Chozi village of Nakonde and parked at the police station in the area.

He says no arrests have so far been made while investigations in the matter continues.

On Wednesday Nakonde central Business District (CBD) came to a stand still as five armed robbers clothed in masks and guns attacked an accountant from Manyanya Group of companies together with his taxi driver as residents scampered in fear for their lives after three gun shots were fired during the robbery.

Almost three years ago thieves stormed the same premises and walked away with goods and money amounting to over K80, 000, while the lead robber was arrested and slapped with a death sentence last year.
