5 CHIEFS IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE WANT GARY NKOMBO TO FORM POLITICAL PARTY.
Zambian Watch has gathered that a number of traditional leaders in Southern Province are exploring ways of persuading former Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Gary Chilala Nkombo to form a political party and prepare for the 2031 General elections.
According to sources familiar with the matter, at least five chiefs believe Mr. Nkombo has the leadership qualities needed to become President of Zambia after President Hakainde Hichilema completes his second term.
The sources say the traditional leaders view Mr. Nkombo as a potential successor to President Hichilema and believe he could build a strong political movement capable of forming government in 2031.
One source told Zambian Watch that the chiefs are currently exploring different ways of approaching Mr. Nkombo about the possibility of forming a political party.
“We are exploring means and ways we can convince Hon. Gary Chilala Nkombo to form a political party and start preparing for 2031,” the source said.
The source said the chiefs were, however, being cautious because they did not want Mr. Nkombo to become a target of political pressure.
“We are cautious because we don’t want a situation where state machinery is employed to destroy him for now. But we know that he has good leadership qualities that can perfectly fit the Presidency of this country. We will continue finding means and ways to engage him,” the source said.
Mr. Nkombo, who previously served as Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament, lost the constituency in the 2026 General Elections.
It remains unclear whether Mr. Nkombo is aware of the reported efforts by the traditional leaders or whether he has any plans to form a political party ahead of the 2031 General elections.

Yes,this is fake news. The source is fake, the five chiefs are fake and s is the author
Are these the articles Zambian Observer should be publishing for public consumption? Who are these 5 chiefs in Southern province? If these chiefs are not prepared to be known then a serious outlet should either refuse to issue a public statement on their behalf or state why these chiefs dont want to be known… A serious outlet should not promote speculations and finger pointing !
Besides ….this Man Nkombo told us that the People of Mazabuka wanted him to stand in the last elections. Those same hand full of people misled him. He lost the elections. Is he going to recoup the money he spent? Awe…he poured money down the drain listening to people who mere wanted to chew his money.
Gray’s political career is not going anywhere.
He pushed the “envelope too far”. In Politics ine has to be weary of one says in public.
These chiefs are a figment of his imagination or people who want to “sooth his lamentation”. Not people who are serious enough to call a spade a spade in Gray’s face.
This is not news worthy…
Gary’s political journey ended when he wanted to wear big boots not his size. Those chiefs if ever they are there should know that UPND has endured not because of HH, but because of Mazoka’s legacy. I am afraid if Gary had to form a political party, it will just end up like Bouldwin Nkumbula’s National party. He better sit down with Kalaba to learn how difficult it is to sustain a political party.
