Zambia now has 63 women in the National Assembly, accounting for 22.4% of the 281 seats, according to NGOCC.
The increase follows the allocation of 40 Proportional Representation seats, 26 of which have gone to women.
That is a significant increase from 15% in 2021 and above the previous high of 18% recorded in 2016.
But NGOCC says the figure is still far from the 50-50 gender parity commitment under the SADC framework.
The final number could also change, with the Lumezi North and Mandevu by-elections still pending and six presidential nominations yet to be filled.

But madame, you were opposed to the very process (bill 7) that has increased the number of women, youths and disabled persons in parliament. In terms of the representation of these 3 groups, we are in a better place than we were 6 months ago. At least acknowledge this. No matter how much you hate HH.
