“7 Days Has Expired for filing in of a petition” Says Secretary to Cabinet, “Swearing of President  Hichilema will go Ahead on Tuesday 1st September 2026”

HH TO BE SWORN IN SEPTEMBER 1.

Secretary to cabinet Patrick Kangwa has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will be sworn in on the 1st September, 2026.


This development follows the elapse of the 7 days ultimatum given for a Presidential petition

The Judiciary has confirmed that no petition challenging the August 13 presidential election was received within the seven-day period allowed by law.

As a result, President-elect Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to be sworn in for another term on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in accordance with Article 105 of the Constitution.

The venue for the inauguration ceremony will be announced in due course.

Secretary to Cabinet Wrote;

“This serves to inform the Nation that at the expiration of the seven days provision
allowed for filing in of a petition challenging a Presidential election, the Judiciary had not received any petition.”



“In this regard, the swearing-in of the President-elect, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, shall be held on Tuesday 1st September 2026 in accordance with the provisions of Article 105 of the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016.”

“The venue for the inauguration ceremony shall be communicated in the due course.”
