75-year-old Itezhi-Thezi man circumcised by force!
A 75-YEAR-OLD man of Itezhi-Tezhi District in Southern Province has been left traumatized after members of the traditional, Mukanda group, forcibly circumcised him.
Wife to the victim, a 69-year-old woman yesterday reported to Itezhi-Tezhi Police Station complaining that her husband, a 75-year-old had been abducted by suspected members of the Mukanda group, who later subjected him to forced circumcision.
According to information availed to TV Yatu by Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo, on July 23, 2026, at around 12:00 hours, the victim went into the bush to cut poles.
He later returned home after about two hours and informed his family that he had been confronted by an unknown man who accused him of trespassing into a Mukanda circumcision site.
Later the same day, at around 18:00 hours, a group of approximately eight (8) men, some of whom were wearing masquerades, confronted the victim and accused him of violating the traditional boundaries of the Mukanda circumcision site.
The group allegedly demanded money from him for allegedly disregarding their traditions, but when he informed them that he had no money, they allegedly grabbed him by force and took him into the bush to the circumcision site.
On receiving the report, officers quickly swang into action. Yesterday, July 24, 2026, between 18:00 hours and 19:30 hours, police officers conducted a follow-up operation at Samundengu Village and managed to locate and retrieve the victim.
He informed police that while in captivity, he was allegedly subjected to forced circumcision without his consent using a sharp knife.
The victim was issued with a medical report form and referred to the hospital for treatment.
Namalongo said police have since apprehended a 56-year-old man of Samundengu Village, Chief Chikazamunyama, Itezhi-Tezhi District, and placed him in custody for abduction and unlawful wounding.
He said investigations to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
