A FRIENDSHIP WORTH STRENGTHENING: UKRAINE AND POLAND LOOK TO THE FUTURE
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met in Lublin, continuing efforts to strengthen ties between two countries whose partnership remains vital to the security of Eastern Europe.
The meeting focused on the future.
Prime Minister Tusk said Zelenskyy briefed him on the outcome of his meetings in Washington, while the two leaders discussed Polish investment in Ukraine, missile defense cooperation, and continued military support.
For Zelenskyy, one issue remains paramount.
“Anti-ballistic missiles are a key priority.”
With another winter approaching and Russia expected to intensify attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses remains at the top of Kyiv’s agenda.
The two leaders also addressed the relationship between their nations.
Zelenskyy said they discussed the historic dialogue between Ukraine and Poland, emphasizing the importance of continuing to resolve difficult issues while building an even stronger partnership for the future.
They also spoke about the safety of the millions of Ukrainians who found refuge in Poland after Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“It is important that Ukrainians who left their homes because of the war and found refuge in Poland feel safe.”
The meeting comes after recent tensions between the two countries, including political disagreements and the disturbing attack on a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław. Yet rather than allowing those incidents to define the relationship, both governments appear determined to move forward together.
That is significant.
Since 2022, Poland has been one of Ukraine’s most important allies—welcoming millions of refugees, serving as a critical hub for humanitarian and military assistance, and standing on NATO’s eastern flank against Russian aggression.
Strong friendships are not built because disagreements never happen. They endure because both sides choose dialogue over division. As Russia continues its war, Ukraine and Poland appear determined to repair, strengthen, and protect one of Europe’s most important partnerships—because both nations understand they are stronger together than apart.
